Kampuchea Krom is formerly part of the Khmer Empire.
France colonized and transferred the control of Kampuchea Krom to Vietnam's Emperor Bao Dai to deter communist North Vietnam and successive regimes until today.

We don't seem to have many happy events to commemorate. We commemorate the losss of Kampuchea Krom. We commemorate the day the Khmer Rouge seized power (17 April), the day of anger angainst the Khmer Rouge (20 May). We commemorate the liberation from the Khmer Rouge and our subjugation to Vietnam (7 January).
Good job, we have the Independence Day to commemorate (9 November). But are not keen to commemorate the signing of the Paris Peace Agreements (23 October) that brought peace (at least the beginning of it), freedom and democracy to our country and provided guarantees for our independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. We are not keen either to commemorate the promulgation of our Constitution (24 September).
However, the commemoration of sad events should be a time for reflection as to why such events had happened and what lessons could be learned from those sad episodes of our history.

PPU is Khmer, but he converted to YOUN which stand for Phu Phuc Unh. He is ashame to be Khmer and gay. His uncle rape him when he was a young boy. His mother killed herself after PPU was borned because she was raped by her brother.
