[Thai] Govt stands by renewed [Preah Vihear] temple bid

Tea Banh on the attack, Hun Sen 'regrets move'

20/06/2009

Bangkok Post

The government has defended its renewed campaign against Cambodia's listing of the Preah Vihear temple, saying it could talk Phnom Penh into understanding Thailand's stance.

Thailand's decision to maintain its objection to the unilateral listing of the Khmer ruins as a World Heritage site has upset Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who said he deeply regretted Thailand's position.

Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Banh yesterday took the Thai government to task for raising the matter which he said was likely to mar bilateral attempts to resolve border disputes.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday said the government has "ways" to communicate with Cambodia to avert border tension and he believed that Hun Sen would understand.

"The cabinet has widely discussed the matter because we do not want any conflict. Still, we have to defend what we believe to be our legitimate rights," Mr Abhisit said.

"If he knows our intention, there is nothing for him to regret," he said of Hun Sen's comment.

Mr Abhisit said Thailand felt the need to renew the objection because the proceedings undertaken by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) to manage the site were deemed to threaten Thailand's approach to mitigate border disputes.

"We understand that the World Heritage Committee mission is to preserve heritage sites so people have a chance to appreciate them, and that involves peace. Its objectives will not be met if its proceedings will lead to conflicts," the prime minister said.

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said the matter was now between Thailand and Unesco, not between Thailand and Cambodia. "Unesco isn't doing it right. It is not about Cambodia," he said.

Mr Suthep said he would try to hold talks with Hun Sen. There would be no fresh disputes, he added.

Earlier, the Foreign Ministry sent a letter to Unesco to inform the organisation that it should seek permission from the Thai government if it wished to conduct any activities in the area surrounding the ancient Hindu temple.

After that, reports emerged that Unesco officials had inspected parts of the 4.6 sq km disputed area near the World Heritage site.

Meanwhile, the Cambodian defence minister said Thailand's renewed bid to oppose Phnom Penh's unilateral listing of Preah Vihear temple has left him at a loss.

"I cannot get myself to understand why the Thai government has to do this," he told the Bangkok Post.

Gen Tea Banh said Phnom Penh had not got wind of the Thai government's move, and that Mr Abhisit did not raise the issue during his visit to Cambodia last Friday.

He said the Thai government's move would only compound the border disputes both sides have long tried to resolve.

He declined to comment if the issue was related to Hun Sen's alleged close ties with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Gen Tea Banh also refuted the Thai government's claim that Cambodia had brought artillery and soldiers to the World Heritage site.

Army chief Gen Anupong Paojinda said the Thai-Cambodian border situation remained calm and both sides had agreed to adjust troop deployments to avoid violent confrontation.

He refused to comment on Hun Sen's dissatisfaction with the Thai government's stance, saying it was not his business to judge the Cambodian leader's remarks.

Second Army commander Lt Gen Wibulsak Neepal told troops in positions along the Thai-Cambodian border to stay alert.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suwit Khunkitti said he would lead the Thai delegation to a World Heritage Committee meeting in Seville, Spain, next week, to reiterate Thailand's objection to Cambodia's unilateral listing of the temple.

Dear Mr. Abhisit,

It is ridiculous that such in the powerful position as the PM of a country, you dare to try to claim a share of ownership with Cambodia on Preah Vihear. Please answer these questions, Mr. Abhisit:

1. Does Preah Vihear belong to Thailand?
2. Who has the rights to register Preah Vihear as the world heritage?
3. Did the UNESCO NOT know anything about who is the owner oh Preah Vihear?
4. How many state members voted for Preah Vihear Registration and stated this world heritage in the territory of Cambodia?
5. Do you think the UNESCO did not have any thorough study on the site before deciding to register Preah Vihear as the world heritage?
6. Do you have a real degree from Oxford?
7. Have you ever had a mental problem?
8. How did you manage to become the PM of Thailand?

If registering Preah Vihear as the world heritage involves the regional peace and stability, why don't you cry for any other registered heritages such as Pyramids in Egypt, the Great Wall of China, or Taj Mahal in India? I advise you to do the following so that you can claim some more world heritages from other countries. You, Mr. Aphasit should send some troops to fight Egypt, China or India and cry out to UNESCO that the fighting breaks out and there is no peace in the region and the world, so you ask the UNSESCO to reconsider the registration of Pyramids, Great wall, and Taj Mahal. It could be possible you may get one for your country interest.

Oh My God! Mr. Abhisit.! Please go to school again.

These days, the sins Thais have committed for along time against the Cambodians have splashed back to all stupid Thais. These are Buddhist curses:

1. The stupid Thai leaders became greedily unaware of the international laws and agreements/MOU
2. Tsunami has hit this Country.
3. In the southern part of Thailand the Muslim people stand up for their freedom and independence.
4. Thailand is known only for sex industry esp. in Pattaya.
5. Thailand tries to be hostile with all neighbors such as Myanmar (badly treating Burmese ethnics), Laos (fierce fighting in the 1980s), Malaysia (alleging Malaysia for supporting the Muslim rebel, and Cambodia (trying to claim Cambodia-owned Preah Vihear)
6. The bloody hatred between the Yellow-shirt and the red shirt supports in the BKK.
7. The crazy yellow shirt demonstration leader (who said during the demonstration that occupying the international airport in BKKwas fun?!?...) became the Minister of FA.
9. The country leaders usually come to power through the coups or street demonstrations.
10. The country has the most cases of H1N1 (about more than 500) in ASEAN region.

Thailand claims as a Buddhist country but disregards the Buddha teaching: Avoiding cheating people, avoiding telling lies, avoiding greed, and showing sympathy…..

May Buddha bless Cambodia!
May Buddha help Thailand turn as humans!

This is politics and power. Abhisit judged Hun sen a one eyed bandit with no guts therefore he took this position.that is why Kasit called him a bandit.
Had the one eyed hyena taken strong actions this might not have happened with the thais occupying our territories.
Instead the one eyed hyena had the "manly courage" to insult a woman member of parliament and lifting her parliamentary immunity.
It is what we call a small time coward dictator.

In the beginning Cambodia should take this matters to the UN immediately . Now Thailand take the advantages. Cambodia should stop playing politics with Thailand. This evil nation has no pride and integrity. Look like Thailand is asking for war dispite how good is their leader talks. They kept making the wrong judgments and mislead it people and it nation. Now the whole world knew about Thailand and it government have lack of resources and understanding. In today societies, one nation can not invaded other nation and claim it as their own. Thailand is making the biggest mistakes, taking on the UN and Cambodia. How can the UN
have lack of resources and understanding the issues about Preah Vihear temple. For crying out loud, the UN is not just one nation . It had multiples nations. Therefor, UN is unlikely to making the wrong judgment.

stupid ass thailand, listing preah vihear temple unilaterally that is because it belongs to cambodia, not thailand, ok. it's not like you guy unilaterally draw the map in order to make the world think the land belong to you when in fact there were proof from the international treaty of 1907 map that it's not. plus the millionth times, the icj verdict ruled and the surrounding included in our preah vihear temple already, so stop making wishful thinking that preah vihear must be negotiated or listed bilaterally at the expense of cambodia. first demarcate the border line using the 1907 maps, not your own unilateral map you people drew up while cambodia was involve in civil war or whatever. the old map never lie. i'm sure unesco will not allow you people to do whatever to cambodia. there are international treaty and law that unesco will use . unesco will look at the icj verdict thoroughly and from there the UN security council will request that you and your country stop dreaming about owning preah vihear and surrounding areas. the surrounding areas come with the icj verdict, ok. cambodia must have easy access to our preah vihear, so stop trying to block our access by claiming that the surrounding area is yours when the international treaty map of 1907 shown clearly that it in fact legally belonged to cambodia all along. so, stop violating the international law already!
