The UN’s Khmer Rouge tribunal prosecutor took issue with statements by Prime Minister Hun Sen Wednesday, as a hearing on whether the court will indict more leaders of the regime was canceled.
Hun Sen has said further indictments beyond the five senior leaders of the regime currently in custody could lead to instability. He has said he would rather see the tribunal fail than see the country return to war.
“I don’t believe that anyone in this country, after so many years of peace, is ready [to make] the worst of the worst of some old murders,” UN prosecutor Robert Petit told reporters outside the court Wednesday.
Tribunal judges were scheduled to mediate a dispute on Friday between Petit and his Cambodian counterpart, Chea Leang, who has echoed Hun Sen’s concerns.
That hearing has been canceled, according to local media.
“I think justice will strengthen stability and reconciliation,” Petit said.

Just only Khmer people never been in Pol Pot always get mad with Pol Pot,but the people have been in Pol Pot neve got mad with Pol Pot,because they thougth it is the dreaming for khmer people or bad luck to Cambodian people.
Yeah very good comment your honor Petit,Mr.Hunsen and also Majesty Sihaknuk they all khmer rouge them self so they must scared because this killer doesn't want to stay in jail
This is the interference from ah one-eyed mafia prime minister, ex-khmer rouge's killer.
If ECCC will not bring Hun Sen, his cronies such as Hor 5 Hong...,etc, plus the retired king father N.Sihanouk to testify, it5 won't be a JUSTICE at all for the Cambodian victims. And it is including Hanoi's leaders were bihind khmer killing fields too, as said Duc.
What instability? what war?? There will be no instability or war whatsoever if the UN indicts more KR leaders. No one believes in hun sen's cowardly comment.
War again? Who will provoke the said-war? Is it those ex-KRs?
I don't think they will. Then who? ......
Mee Chea Leang so called Khmer lawyer is just to block the KRT because she tried to protect her boss, Hun Shit, and her uncle, Sok An. The KRT should remove her from this court. She is bias and do not good to the trial. She just want to spy on the court and report to her Vietcong boss.
Ah Kwak is always finding the way to get accuse, but he is the one who create peace or war.
Hun sen is either so stupid or so fake to try to manipulates thing.
Nothing out of curruptions and crookedness can strengthen stability and reconciliation.
To bring justice and stability to cambodia, curruptions have to be punished, old crime have to reinvestigate!
Khmer rouge trial, 5 is not enough, not 5 people killed atleast 2 millions khmer. Not only khmer kills khmer. Youns, thai, chinese, US BOMBING, KILLS KHMER.
hun sen, and the old king is witness to the crime. They should be brought to the court! And many other khmer rouge leader.
Beside, this is an international court. The khmer government should keep their opinion to themself and stay out of the way of the court.
I wish to see more people brought to justice. Considering the devastation during KR era, taking only 5 people to the court is not fair for the victims. I acknowledge that we can not bring all murderers to trial, but at least all leaders who have similar responsibility as the five should be brought to the tribunal.
Cambodian leaders are so childish. UN and donor countries please, please, please, don't let them do stupid things again and again.
There is no such thing as instability. If HUN SEN won't cause it there will be none. None of us Khmer wants instability.
We want the answer!!
HUN SEN always threaten us. If he is care enough about Cambodia's future and justice he shouldn't keep threatening the court.
Down to Hell HUN SEN!!!!
we know that Chea Leang is a niece of Sok An and she was recruited by Sok An the position. So there is no doubt that she has to do everything to please her uncle.
if chea lenh is a niece of sok an does she pass law exam?
Nope!
Sok An families owned almost all kind of political positions in Cambodia.
