In the morning of 25 June 2009, Hun Sen issued an immediate order to all 8 Phnom Penh district governors to take immediate measures to raid the screening of porn videos which seriously affect the Cambodian society.
During a ceremony for the distribution of diplomas for graduates from the University of National Pedagogy held on Thursday morning, Hun Sen said: “Now, it looks like porn videos are coming back again at some locations. All district [governors] must take a look and deal with them right away. If they [porn videos] can be changed, roll over them and throw them away, and send these people to the court. Why keep them out for so long, these animals?”
Hun Sen said: “Does it takes the prime minister to yell for you to take action? Why couldn’t you do it all the time so that the prime minister has time to do some other works? Right now, the governors and the councilors must take action, don’t wait for the prime minister to yell.”
Hun Sen also warned those involved in the porn screening who claim that they have the backing of high-ranking government officials: “I tell you, even if you are donned with stars [i.e. a general] or moons, I will still fire you. Don’t rely on the fact that your backings are high-ranking officials, no matter how high they are, I will fire them immediately without the need of the king['s authorization]. You must cooperate with the people to erase all these issues and not let them affect the society.”
This is not the first time that Hun Sen issues his order to district governors to deal with this problem. Hun Sen issued his orders many times already, but some cops are still conniving with the perpetrators. Hun Sen also warned cops who accept hundreds of dollars in bribe to hide this issue. Therefore, from now on, if this issue flares up again, these officials could be fired from their jobs.
