"An informed source said there were currently around 5,000 Cambodian troops and 3,000 Thai soldiers in the disputed area."

"Acting government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said the Thai delegation had asked the WHC to comply with regulation 13, one of the World Heritage listing regulations. The regulation states that a bilateral listing would replace a unilateral listing if the listing had led to growing border conflicts between two concerned parties, he said." - [KI-Media: Thailand stirs the border dispute on purpose?]
The army plans to reduce troop numbers around the disputed Preah Vihear temple in a bid to ease border tensions with Cambodia.

Army chief Anupong Paojinda yesterday said there would be a reduction soon in the number of soldiers deployed around the mountain, where the ruins of the ancient Hindu temple sit, to comply with a recent agreement reached with Cambodia.

The agreement was reached between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon at the weekend, he said.

"But there won't be a complete pullout. It will simply be an adjustment to bring down the number of troops stationed there," Gen Anupong said.

"We still need troops in the area to reinforce our position that the area is ours."

Troop numbers around Preah Vihear should be reduced to the level the army maintained before the recent reinforcements were called in, Gen Anupong said. No exact timeframe has been set for the reduction. Further talks would be needed to specify troop levels that both sides would find acceptable, he said.

An informed source said there were currently around 5,000 Cambodian troops and 3,000 Thai soldiers in the disputed area.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suwit Khunkitti told the cabinet yesterday Unesco's World Heritage Committee (WHC) had decided not to review the temple listing as a World Heritage site until its annual meeting in Brazil next year, as requested by Thailand.

Mr Suwit, who has just returned from observing the WHC meeting in Seville in Spain, said the committee's decision was to allow Thailand to make better preparations for its objections to Phnom Penh's push to have the temple listed.

Acting government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said the Thai delegation had asked the WHC to comply with regulation 13, one of the World Heritage listing regulations.

The regulation states that a bilateral listing would replace a unilateral listing if the listing had led to growing border conflicts between two concerned parties, he said.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday said the WHC's decision had helped keep the efforts to resolve the Thai-Cambodian border dispute on track.

Khmer government should make a strong response to such claims. They can't claim across the border.

Yes, they are stiring the water. This why our Khmer Ancestors warn all Khmers not to trust Siamese.

I think the Thai would be very embarrassed and humiliated if we put public request to UNESCO to review all Thai World Heritage Site that have Khmer origin, and to file and official complaint to the U.N to have a joint rule of the islands and co-rule for the nation of Thailand as this was a nation established under the Khmer rule, and Khmer have rights and reserve the objection to Thai sovereignty.

It's ridiculous and absurd, but it just to poke fun of what Thailand is actually doing to Cambodia now and make the public aware of the absurdity of Thai ambitions.

No joint management! Abishit, Preah Vihear belongs to the Khmer people don't meddle into Khmer cultural heritage unless you are ready to accept you are just also a left over shit from the falling Khmer civilization.

So what happened? Can someone from the Cambodian government en-light us on this Siam saga. What is the position of the Cambodian government to this ongoing Thais shit who want to list Preah Vihear with Cambodia? Hun Sen must act decisively: stop the damn talk with ah Siam, it's useless. Cut off diplomatic ties, bar all Thai Airlines from entering Cambodia airspace…….economically they'll loose more than us. Never restore any of the above with Siam. There are plenty of countries out there that we can do business with. We must play a hard ball here otherwise it'll never end with a greedy neighbour.

And don't forget to build up the military strength.

it is ok, just install more ground-to-air missiles along the border. put more troops there. we khmer should learn from Isreal. Everybody in Cambodia should carry guns. learn from Americans's 2nd ammendment in their constitution. it is ok if the unesco does not wants preah vihear listed as world heritage. we keep it to ourself.

We can accuse the Thai in two main cases:
1- Disobeying the 62s judement of IC.
2- Invading our country.

But why doesn't the cambodian goverment take this case to the International Court???? Are there any stories behind????

Do we need this type of friendship between cambodia and that evil thai???? The longer we delay the cases, the more we lost the victorious chance.

""Thai is much luckier than Ms. Muo Sok Huo and Mr. Ho Van for not facing the court".

Just the same old game. Nothing new. I absolutely agree that in order for Cambodia to live in peace, Cambodia must always ready for war. For last 20 years, Cambodia has made mistake to allow their arm forces to get so weak. This is the hard lesson for Cambodia to learn. Cambodia should never disregard their arm forces again. Cambodia need atleast 1/5 a million troops with well armed and well prepared. This is the only way that Cambodia can keep peace with their next door neighbors. History already told them that, but again and again Cambodia keeps forget.

What has we said last week that Thais may have brought a lot of moneys to Hun Sen for that 4160 ha of land. Hun Sen can offer 100,000 ha of land at 99 years of lease to Vietnam, why can't do the same for 4160 ha. Moneys talk.

Dear all Khmer and International Friends,

This shows two attitude of Poisonous attitude of Siames leadership:

1) Siamese leaders will not dare to confront with Khmer Resistance. Their soldiers are described by some Khmer people as Moan Samlor "cock for food cooking" not a really "cock fighter".
2) They build up forces just to show to UNESCO that the listing of Preah Vihear as World Heritage by UNESCO leads to a military confrontation between the two countries and try to slow down Cambodia to make progress in developing paln to conserve/manage Preah Vihear temple.

This attitude is a poisonous tactics Siamese and they've never been a good and honest neighbor at all for Cambodia. So Cambodians have to be careful.

Hun Sen said "If Thailand wants to attack Preah Vihear, it must send in 50,000 troops" this is a good fluff by Hun Sen. As the matter of fact Hun Sen doesn't have 30,000 troops in active.
Most of Hun Sen' forces are weak and not enough salary to support them in the battle; not long ago some of their ambassadors walked from state to state begged U$$$$$ from khmer oversea to help their troop at the front line. If I were Army chief Anupong Paojinda I will teach this guy a heavy lesson and show his Hanoi boss whom is better than whom.

Let the 4th Indochina war begin!

Thailand will not reach its objective to relist the temple jointly with Cambodia.

The regulation 13 of the listing world heritage can not be raising in the case of Preah Vihear temple, due to every thing is belong to Cambodia.

The problem remain is demarcation that we have to do before the next meeting of UNESCO.

The world also see that Thailand is the tension maker by sending the troops to invade Cambodia's territory, not caused from the listing of the temple as the world heritage by UNESCO.
