Tension at the Thai-Cambodian border is likely to continue as Thailand's neighboring country declines to reduce its troops stationed in the area near Preah Vihear Temple. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister pledges the problem will be resolved through peaceful means.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said his government adheres to peaceful approaches in resolving the Thai-Cambodian border disputes as military confrontation will not benefit the two countries.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen reportedly announced a readiness for battle with Thailand over the dispute on the registration of Preah Vihear Temple as Cambodia's World Heritage site.
Abhisit reiterated he has no policy to hold a bilateral negotiation with Cambodia to seek a co-registration of Preah Vihear Temple because the demarcation of the border remains unclear.
He also noted UNESCO's declaration of the ancient temple as a World Heritage site has been delayed as Cambodia is required to provide the agency with more information after Thailand filed an opposition to it.
Deputy Prime Minister in charge of national security Suthep Thaugsuban said violence will not break out at the northeastern border as he and Hun Sen have already reached an understanding.
Suthep, however, declined to comment on the Cambodian prime minister's recent stance via the media and he urged all parties to avoid being provoked to hate the neighboring country while Thais must exercise their restraint.
He also asked the media not to compare his role in the border disputes with that of Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, who has been criticized for failing to resolve the problem through diplomatic means.
Suthep defended his fellow Cabinet member, saying that Kasit has performed well and he has never sparked any discord with Hun Sen.
Meanwhile, Second Army Region Commander Lieutenant General Wiboonsak Neeparn declined to reveal the outcome of yesterday's talks with his Cambodian counterpart over the reduction of troops in the border area, particularly around Preah Vihear Temple.
The meeting reportedly reached no conclusion as Cambodia refused to curb the number of its troops deployed to the disputed area and its officials refused to attend further talks unless ordered to do so by their government.
In a related development, more heavy weaponry was reinforced to the Cambodian forces stationed near Preah Vihear Temple, resulting in increasing tension at the border.
Chairman of Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Si Sa Ket, Bunmee Buaton, said Hun Sen's remark over a possible military clash with Thailand has inflamed the border tension.
Bunmee said he does not want the two countries to wage a war as people living near the border area will be directly affected, but his administrative body has prepared for an evacuation of its residents in case of military confrontation.

It's time to put an end to Abhisit's rhetorics. If thais do not want to see bloodshed they must immediately withdraw from preah vihear temple. the border demarcation between Cambodia and Thailand was completed long ago.
If Thailand want peace why it gov't kept deployed more troops. That show the Thais does not want peace. Just another aggression and sweet talks again. Cambodia must put an end to this so called Thais invaded in Khmer territory again and again. Preah Vhear temple was built by the Khmer ancestors for Khmer people only. Thailand had no business to involved with Cambodia internal affair period.
During the Burness invasion, they used the same strategies to Khmers: Alliance and Attacks, now Negotiations, Agreements and Attacks.
Khmers should never trust them.
Don't just talk from increase to reduce, from reduce to increase forces, just setup the military position and fight.
To see who has the most advantage between the US master and Hanoi Master?
Let's set this game on the betting board and let's everyone bet...
I Bet 50,000 US dollars "Thai will open fight on Cambodian side first"
and possible invasion to conquer cambodia to replace Cambodia from Hanoi's influence to Bangcock's new ruler.
^...and you will be forced to suck siem king's dick again.
thai want to crunch cambodia troops at the side of the temple .they want to destoy the temple rather give up to cambodia .now internatioal keep eye on thai as kompoul merchor in southearthasia in 2009
There is no way Thailand wants to invade Cambodia and conquer it because they’re ASEAN members. The worse scenario would be skirmish along the border. If war broke out, Thais will pay big pride for its soldiers lost as they walk into landmine fields and a waiting by RCA ambush. Also SAM sites and over shoulder stingers would chase those Thai aircrafts before they got a chance to return.
The funny thing is Thais kept saying one thing and do other thing instead? like keep icreasing their troops, if Thailand want peace with cambodia, all they have to do just withraw all of their toops out from Khmer lands...it's over! but we knew it's not gonna happend, we must kick those Thai soldier staying at the Pagoda out!! it's time for cambodia to stand up and fight back, we had enough with Thai-greedy...
Cambodia has to show Thailand something too! don't just put your head down and let them stepping on your back, we had enough bullshit with them! if they like war we give them one to remember the rest of their life....
Yes Thai invade Preah Viheah 1 year I think that is too long. we should drive them out ASAP.

We let's Abhisit Vejjajeva's administration more time to think about Preah Vihear Temple issued before we are going to take them to International Court of Justice.
New Phally
Cambodian First Lady just cooked for the Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban last Saturday and now there are border tension again.
The ups and downs with Thailand give me an impresion that Thai PM may just want to play game with its own people for two fold outcomes:
a- be a hero in the eyes of Thai people by playing with the symbol of Cambodian sacred temple, and
b- divert Thai people attention from real Thai internal issues
i supported by beloved cambodia totally. it is a wake up time for cambodia to modernize our armed forces by going to war with thailand to not only stake permanent claim to preah vihear temple but perhaps to reclaim our lost khmer provinces back as well. we had enough. let cambodia reform and modernize our armed forces this century! god bless cambodia.
I would like to ask Ah SHIT a question. If Ah SHIT would like to solve the problem peacefully... who send Thai troops to Preah Vihear temple?
Shame on you AH SHIT
Thai PM said war is not good for both country, yep, we all knew that! and why you sending your people to invaded khmer lands the first place? and why you still hadn't withrawal all of your troops out? cambodia had enough wars! we are sicken tired of wars...if you knew it's bad, why you started????????
gentleman
Such a stupid Thai asean news:
Border tension prevails as peace talks with cambodia fail.
It appears that cambodia provokes war with thailand. In fact it is the opposite that Thailand has tries to disturb the peace of cambodia, as Thai PM insists to have shared Preah Vihear temple which was built by khmer ancestors.
The modified history has been spread in Thai education, urging thais that cambodia belonged to Thailand.please note that even thai's movie actually claimed border villages are thais such as sampeo lune,poipet....etc.
This degree of manipulation has bee exercised all along, knowing the ultimate truth that cambodia the sole owner, international court in hague in 1962.
so please gentleman stop fighting one another in the name of power, for what we are persuaded to abuse our own blood cambodians.
Killing fields was massive destruction to cambodia.
wake up to ourselve for our survival, please.
