The top RCAF commander demanded that Thai soldiers cover back up all the trenches they dug near the confrontation zone. General Chea Dara, RCAF deputy commander and Cambodian army commander for the Preah Vihear temple zone, said on Wednesday morning that, on Tuesday, Cambodian army commander met with their Thai counterpart and demanded that Thai troops cover back up the trenches they dug in the prohibited zone. Chea Dara told RFA that Thai army commander accepted the demand made by Cambodia, but, yesterday, they were not able to cover them back up because of rain. Chea Dara said that he told his Thai counterpart that Thailand’s trench digging in Thai territory is their prerogative, but when Thai troops dig trenches on Cambodian soil, it is Cambodia’s automatic rights to defend itself. According to Cambodian troops stationed in Preah Vihear area, as of Tuesday, Thai troops near Phnom Trop and Ta Sim pass have covered back some of the trenches.
