Cambodia's government is under fire because of its legal attack on opponents. Hang Chakra, former editor of the Khmer Machas Srok newspaper, shares a cell with 50 other convicts in Phnom Penh's notorious Prey Sar prison, serving a one-year sentence for articles that alleged corruption among government officials.
Moeung Sonn, head of the Khmer Cultural Civilisation Foundation, was last month sentenced to two years in jail in absentia for "disinformation" after suggesting a new lighting system at the Angkor Wat temple complex might damage the 600-year-old buildings.
On Friday, a court is to hand down its verdict in a case against Mu Sochua, an opposition parliamentarian accused of defamation against Hun Sen, Cambodia's prime minister. "I'm sure I will be found guilty unless there is some magic in the air - and I don't feel that there is," she said.

Like it or not, the verdict of Aug. 4th will order Mme Mu Sochau to pay 10 Millions Riels for sure. Because if Mme Mu is not found guilty, that means PM Hun Sen is the one who really defamed her, but the court in Cambodia has no ability to do so. However I think most people are waiting to see if the court will sentence Mme Mu in prison, like this court do to Mr. Moeung Sonn and Mr. Hang Chhakra. And in case no prison term for her that is the most likely, will she get her immunity back? I think it will be hard, if we has listened carefully the prime minister speeches following his complaint to the court.

For me I see Cambodia is more and more a lawless country now. Because the legal system judges the government critics based on what the high government official want.
Hang Chakra is a journalist, the court should use the law for journalist to try him but they put him in jail that no law allows to do so. As for Mr. Moeung Sonn, he criticized the improper works of APSARA authority, he has been sentenced to two years in prison. The case between MP Mu Sochau and PM Hun Sen show us a very imbalance of power between parliament and the government. Anyhow, there still people who love this system...

You know what I never bother to read and follow up any news, articles concerning this woman (Mu Sohour); she filed compliant against the Cambodian government, Samdech Hun Sen. This woman left the country during the 80s living abroad and gain education then return to work in Cambodia and joint Sam Rainsy party and cost trouble with the government, Samdech Hun Sen. I am so sick and tired of this woman, I wish Samdech Hun Sen would chase her out of the country. She thinks she is cool and she has backup by her friend some Cambodian people behind her. I don’t care what she has. I am so glad Samdech Hun Sen convinced her. May I ask you for your too much worrying about Angkor Vatt destruction by those workers. Angkor is directly belonging to the Siemreap people. If they want to suicide it is ok. But I think they will not destroy It.
