Cambodian people have been easily deceived by the powerful leaders because tax collection in Cambodia is different from the US and other developed countries. In Cambodia, the government generates their revenue by charging the fee of export and import goods, and other charges towards businessmen, investments, leases and concessions etc.
All those charges have inevitably impacted on the livelihood of Cambodian people in general. For instance, the high fee of automobile import at the port check point, will absolutely increase the price for Cambodian people who want to buy those automobiles. How about other utilities such as imported shoes, dresses and many other commodities? It is surely taxing the Cambodian people, not directly but indirectly. Not less, but a lot.
In reality, Cambodian people are the owner of their land and nation, those top leaders are just their representatives. Am I right?
No need to compare with US or UK, just look at Thailand or Vietnam as example. These countries, through the media, they inform their people that they are the servants of the people. And their daily living absolutely base on the expenses (materially and spiritually) of their people.
