National Assembly President Heng Samrin met with his Thai counterpart Thursday, asking him to reduce the number of Thai troops along the border near Preah Vihear temple.
Heng Samrin met with Thai Parliamentary President Chai Chidchob at the National Assembly in Phnom Penh, as the Thai lawmaker made his first official visit, amid a restive military standoff that is now more than a year old and has caused at least seven deaths.
“Mr. Heng Samrin provided recommendations to Mr. Chai Chidchob to return the military tension along the border to normalcy in aiming at solving the border dispute and reducing military tension,” Korm Kosal, spokesman for the National Assembly, told reporters Thursday. “Our two nations are solving our border dispute peacefully. [Honorable] Heng Samrin demands that Thailand maintain a calm like that prior to July 15, 2008.”
The Thai parliamentarian said he would take the request to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Korm Kosal said.
Chai also met with Prime Minister Hun Sen, requesting that he maintain a good relationship with Thailand, said Ieng Sophalleth, a spokesman for the premier.
Hun Sen requested “that we should prevent armed conflict and use all mechanisms to solve this problem and promote our borders to become peaceful, stable and developed,” the spokesman said.
Chai will meet King Norodom Sihamoni and Senate President Chea Sim before he returns to Bangkok on Friday.

FROM KHMER SOLIDARITY FOR ALL KHMER IN THE WORLD.
I hope HUN SEN will not be soften to this arrogant Thai diplomats. They always have ton of tricks. Watch out HUN SEN, we have too many lessons to learn from previous past. They pretend to bow and shake hand with us but on the hand they stab us.
Can't underestimate these gestures.
We must not let them take 1 mm of our land. Cambodian can't be that stupid any more. The past the reason Thai took our lands a lot because some of the Khmer Mae-Top or war commander or general betrayed the Khmer kingdom and join the Thai. Example, Khmer general Reamea Komhaeng, Reamea Thipdey they betrayed khmer.
Thai bend down because in the future he'll bide that Khmer's balls.
looks like the thai are trying to mend fences with cambodia. hopefully they will go in the right direction by working and cooperating with cambodia, and not the other way around. that is a good sign. and thailand must stop being biased with cambodia as well as they often showed that for a long time! i hope they are keeping or learning that cambodia is getting smarter now and plus, it's not like it's in the dark age where cambodia is heading right now. cambodia had changed a lot, and for anyone to not see that is a sign of pure ignorant on their part! god bless cambodia.
even if the war broke out , i won't be there fighting with thai as long as hun sen is in power.

Your comments are right, 12:35PM, 1:06PM and 1:59PM.
I totally agree with yours.
Now what's Hun Sen next move? inorder to make Thai withrawal their troop from Pt.505"Top of Dangkrek Mt."? so far Thai never listening to us at one bit, didn't matter how many meeting we were having? they did not withraw their troop at "Wat Keo Korisvarak", and now they had put more of their troops deep inside our territory...2km deep inside! Thailand keep adding, no subtracting!
Gen: Pol Sarouen said the tenth Thais at Pagoda must leave! but they are still there?, playing Poker everyday? i think we are fuck up with thais PUSH GAMES!
This to 8:22PM who sounds smarter than the rest.
You said "The past the reason Thai took our lands a lot because some of the Khmer Mae-Top or war commander or general betrayed the Khmer kingdom and join the Thai. Example, Khmer general Reamea Komhaeng, Reamea Thipdey they betrayed khmer."
Do you know the reasons why those generals left Cambodia to serve Siam?
Before that King Chey Varaman 8 (or Jayavaraman 8) persecuted Khmer Buddhists because he changed Buddhism to Hindu, many of Khmer Buddhists escaped to join Siam. I don't see you blamed Jayavaraman 8 for his cruelty. Not only he persecuted Khmer Buddhists he bowed to Kublai Khan's feet, and he put Khmer empire to be a vassal state of Kublai Khan. How many gold or gems he sent to Kublai Khan to feed Mongolian army and built a forbidden city in China?
Jayavaraman 8 was the first Varaman King who destroyed Khmer economy and Khmer empire, then the country continue to decline until 1700's Cambodia was wiped out from the world map during General Chakri the founder of this current dynasty in Thailland.
When Youn and Siam ruled Cambodia, we lost the Kingdom already. The Khmer extremists like to blame and blame and then bragged about Varaman Kings were all great. If King Ang Doung didn't invite Napoleon to help, all of us may have spoken only Thai and Youn.
No one can save Cambodia, because many Khmers are so evils, especially the extremists like poets, Sacrava and few blockheads around.
Like i used to say, the meeting and the talks are wasting time!! Thai suppose to withraw, but they don't, they kept encroaching instead, thai haven't leave the Pagoda yet, now they already put more troops inside khmer lands again, the problem with cambodian leaders is lack of attentions, neglected and trusting them too much!, we had learned the lessons already that when they promise, they lie!! i blamed cambodian army leaders for not pay attentions and neglected...
Thai succeed because they learned from foreign country "educations", they got smarter of course! Khmer King believed too deep in nonsense...
12:28PM.
So what do you expect after Mongolian empire, Siam and Youn cleaned up Khmer Empire banks? When gold and precious stones taken away from Cambodia, she became poor, and when Khmers became poor, look what happened?
Poor people cannot afford to go to school, so don't blame Khmers after the empire collapsed by those Varaman Kings like Jayavaraman 8.
We all were born in a miserable time, so we have to live with it. It's our Bab our ancestors did to others and now dropped on us.
I think Thai government is just a tool. The real power is not on them. They agreed today, but not tomorrow. I don't think practice will last any longer. Thai public want to live with dignity and deserve to be told the truth. One day when such behind-the-door person is gone, Thai will become a normal country that respects the laws or agreements.
Keep hope for change.
9;20PM,
Can you write something at least inject some intelligence instead of guessing about other big nations like Thailand while we Khmers are so poor and small? Your writing is so stupid.
