BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) - Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Thursday his government has not yet discussed whether Thailand should ask Cambodia to jointly register of ancient Preah Vihear temple on the Thai-Cambodian border as a World Heritage Site.
A joint submission for the joint registration of the temple as the World Heritage Site by the two countries would only create more confusion because of the unclear border demarcation in the area, he said.
Mr. Abhisit said questions could be raised regarding ownership of the area adjoining the temple. However, he suggested, a settlement could be made on the condition that neither Thailand nor Cambodia claims that it owns the disputed area.
So far the Cambodian government has not considered applying for a common registration with Thailand on the site, he said.
The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) granted Cambodia’s application to designate Preah Vihear as a World Heritage Site in July 2008.
However, UNESCO agreed last month in Seville, Spain, to delay the formal registration until February as the organisation still has a number of other matters to implement.
Delaying the formal registration came after Thai complaints that the temple listing had led to several armed clashes near the temple and urged the world agency to review its decision.
On negotiations regarding troop reductions at Preah Vihear, Mr. Abhisit said concerned officials of the two countries are still meeting to reduce tensions and to solve the problem peacefully.

Whether thais have or have not talked amongst themselves about joint registration of preah vihear with Cambodia is not our concern anymore. the thais want to drag out this diplomatic talks as long as possible so they can continue to fool Cambodians but we already know that they are up to nothing. It is better off for the thais to withdraw all their troops from the temple area if they don't want to see their troops in body bags. they have repeatedly tested our mettle by purposedly intruding into Cambodia's territory. they started this whole thing and will pay for their action. All thais, be ready to prepare cofin for your loved ones if you continue to intrude into Cambodian land.
What a laugh joke by abhisit!!

Abhishit "A settlement could be made on the condition that neither Thailand nor Cambodia claims that it owns the disputed area."
That is an absurd statement made by Thai PM Abhishit. The area got to have owner and owned by a country and as it has already been decided by WCJ back in 1962. The area is in Cambodia territory!
of course not! ah bishit should know better that cambodia will never allow them to joint manage or whatever with our temple. i think cambodia would rather choose another country that is more affluent and more industrialized than thailand to joint manage our temple listed as world heritage site. cambodia cannot trust siem thugs, and we don't want them to joint manage or whatever with us. we don't need thailand in this, really! get lost already!
go play with yourself, ah bishit, don't come play with cambodia! get lost already! we don't want your stinking race of people!
