U.S. to provide assistance to reform Cambodia public financial system

PHNOM PENH, July 6 (Xinhua) -- The United States government announced Monday its intention to provide technical assistance to the Royal Government of Cambodia to support the country's public management reform program and efforts to improve fiscal controls and promote greater transparency in financial transactions.

The announcement was made after a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economy and Finance Keat Chhon and U.S. Ambassador Carol A. Rodley, and Michael Ruffner from the Treasury Department's Office of Technical Assistance (OTA).

"The assistance is designed to help Cambodia strengthen the enforcement of laws and controls as they relate to budgeting and financial accountability, banking and financial services, the insurance and financial industries, and tax administration and collection," it said in the statement.

It added that the financial management and accountability assistance programs were expected to begin within the next few months.

yes, what took so long already. reforming in this areas (amongst many other areas as well) is very crucial for cambodia to curb corruption, to grow financially in terms of acountability and gov't transparency, etc... otherwise, cambodia will see no end to suffering, inequality, injustice, etc... really, this area needs overhaul and reform so people will trust in gov't again. please don't wait too long to reform this sector already. it will be good for the future gov't system of cambodia if we were to grow, compete with the neighboring countries or the world for that matter, etc... cambodia as a nation and people deserves better and can do better as well. god bless cambodia.

PPU's time has come:

Now that PPU has clearly stated his malicious intention, KI-Media can report to have him banned for good or as an owner KI-Media can just delete his comments.

do you know why people go corrupted? one reason because there's no penal code to punish or reprimand them; the other is because they can get away easily. where is the proper check and balance in gov't? people have to demand from gov't no more corruption! those still practice corruption, if found wrong should get the media involved and broadcast publicly on tv so they will get embarrassed and humiliated in public. that's one way to curb or discourage corruption. of course, we need to have the penal code and anti-corruption law spelled out as well to back the justice system up in the court of law. everyone should be made aware to respect the new law when put into practice. then if they still do it, then demote them or remove them from office asap. the key is to make the public aware of it since khmer culture seemed to shape from what others are saying or criticizing, etc... killing them won't solve any problem; instead make them pay back the thing they steal from the nation. god bless cambodia.

i think any type of technical assistance from our good, old friends, the USA, is a positive sign that the USA have interest in cambodia. cambodia needs lots of technical assistance from our friends, the USA, japan, european, australia, etc... we would like a strong and firm foundation for cambodia for future to come. we don't like isolation any more. we want a global community to have interest in cambodia and to help cambodia develop where see fit and lacking. there are lots of rooms for learning and improvement in cambodia, not to mention lots of great opportunity of a life time as well. welcome all afluent nations to cambodia as well. god bless cambodia.
