Comment: During war, the people needs military to protect their lives from enemy. During peace, the people needs policemen to protect their lives from thieves and injustice. Vietnam has played both roles in Cambodia. First Vietnam sent their troops to help Cambodian free from a mismanagement regime of Pol Pot. Second, after Vietnam had authority over Cambodia during 1979-1990, Vietnam has successfully installed the system of their policemen to guard Cambodian people. But this strategy is not enough for Vietnam. Vietnam has to ensure that Cambodian people will be gradually assimilated by their policy such as: ensuring the eternal friendship with Cambodian politicians, ensuring long lasting peaceful border zone, ensuring cultural understanding, and ensuring mutual assistance as well as strengthening solidarity etc. Laos people are currently peacefully guarded by the Vietnamese policemen, next step Vietnam has to ensure that Laos people are genuinely Vietnamese. Let study this case during Hun Sen administration, and let take your notes to predict what will be happened after Hun Sen?
Vietnam and Cambodia will hold cultural exchanges for their young people in order to help them understand about the lives, customs and cultural traditions of each other’s country as well as strengthen solidarity and mutual assistance.
This was part of the action plan agreed upon at the fourth meeting of the southern chapter of the Vietnam-Cambodian Friendship Association (VCFA), held in Ho Chi Minh City on July 2.
VCFA Chairman Vu Mao asked the association’s members to pay more attention to boosting economic cooperation between cities, towns, and villages in the two countries.
The Vietnam-Cambodia Business Club, set up by the VCFA in 2008, now has over 60 members, including the military-run mobile phone company Viettel, the Vietnam Rubber Corp. and the Me Linh Group, which have productively invested in Cambodia .
The club plans to open a Vietnamese representative office and build a trade centre in Phnom Penh , Mao said.
In the past, Vietnamese provinces sharing borders with Cambodia have organised a series of cultural and sports activities, free medical check-ups and built schools and clinics for their neighbours.

Therefore the future of Cambodia is depended to them for what kind of Cambodia they want to live in. maybe true, but let's don't get overboard with praising the vietnamese for helping cambodia. there are a lot of nations on the planet which have helped cambodia, too. cambodian people are still mindful of the loss of our territories, lands, seas, waters, etc to the vietnamese during the middle age or i like to call it the dark ages of cambodia (after the fall of angkor empire up to the french protectorate period). so, to praise the historical enemies, the vietnamese (youn in khmer) is not good, especially when know learn that they steal from cambodia. it would take a miracle for khmer people to trust and be fond of youn, really. of course, as a good neighbor, they can help cambodia in time of crisis as cambodia has also helped them during the vietnam war by allowing the vietcong to use cambodia as sanctuary to fight against the american and the french. so it went both ways, actually, believe it or not! the key, though, cambodian people can learn and adopt new ideas, concepts, and be opened to the world. we must not isolate our country any more like in the past century or so because isolation made our country less develop, especially in a competition world like neighboring countries who will take advantage of our naive and inexperience, or lack of knowledge, etc... khmer people must be smarter by adopt to the modern world while at the same time help preserve of ancient culture, tradition, khmer language, writing, etc that worth preserving. we also must learn to understand the importance of learning from our past like loving and caring for our ancient ruins, anything that is ancient and old and worth preserving should be preserved for the sake of our future generation learning and pride in our history, etc... i know in the way old, people don't understand the importance of preserving the ancient relics maybe due to their belief of bad luck, believe in ghost, etc... these stuff are actually harmless to human, if we think about it. it's all in the mind, the belief, etc... cambodia should adopt new mentality of preserving our old architecture because khmer people oftern dismantle old buildings to build new ones believing in bad luck, etc... it is good to keep these old structures, etc for our future generation to learn and see; plus, it is good for tourist site seeing as well as the world is now beginning to learn more and more about cambodia and interesting in learning about cambodia in everyway. we have to teach our kids to preserve this things because once they are destroyed, they will be lost forever. thank you.
