On Wednesday 12 August 2009 which is celebrated as the International Youth Day, Ban Ki-Moon, the UN Secretary-general, sent a message on this special occasion stating:

The theme of this year’s International Youth Day -– “Sustainability: Our Challenge. Our Future” –- is a global call to action for young men and women. Our world faces multiple interconnected crises with severe and far-reaching impacts that fall disproportionately on the young.

In 2007, for example, youth comprised 25 per cent of the world’s working age population yet accounted for 40 per cent of the unemployed. The global economic downturn means that, in the near term, youth unemployment will continue to climb. Unemployment rates tell only part of the story, especially for the vast majority of youth who live in developing countries. For them, informal, insecure and low-wage employment is the norm, not the exception.

Climate change, meanwhile, continues to compromise economies and threaten tremendous upheaval, saddling young people everywhere with an unjust “ecological debt”. This is a potentially crushing burden. At the same time, I am encouraged by the contributions that young people have made to the debate on climate change mitigation and adaptation. Their views and proposals can help build the momentum necessary to “seal the deal” in Copenhagen later this year.

Indeed, young people have proven themselves to be key partners in sustainable development. They have got involved in international forums such as the Commission on Sustainable Development, and have helped their Governments and communities to formulate poverty reduction strategies, entrepreneurial schemes and many other policies and initiatives.

Young people often lead by example: practising green and healthy lifestyles, or promoting innovative uses of new technologies, such as mobile devices and online social networks. They deserve our full commitment -- full access to education, adequate health care, employment opportunities, financial services and full participation in public life. On International Youth Day, let us renew our pledge to support young people in their development. Sustainability is the most promising path forward, and youth can lead the way.”

Cambodia is also affected by the aftermath of the worldwide economic crisis, and several tens of thousand of factory and company workers lost their jobs and income because their companies and factories went bankrupt and a number of private companies cut down on the number of their workers or reduced their salaries.

Surveys conducted NGOs indicated also that, each year, about 300,000 Cambodian youths who completed their high school and bachelor degrees are jobless.

It is really ridiculous of NGO survey that 300,000 Cambodian who got Bachelor degree are jobless each year. How many Khmer's student who graduated Bachelor degree each year? When those 300,000 students started have no job??

Cambodian population is around 14 Million and 300,000 Khmer can completed their Bachelor degree each year, means Cambodia has human resources more than any country in South East Asia and can beat Western country as well.

300000 educated people cannot find jobs because many uneducated generals and their uneducated servants and their uneducated leaders are enjoying the lavish living lifestyle.

While government are like busy bees on stinging the dissident to silent them for being critical of the current regime, the country (Cambodia) is heading toward catastrophic changes in the coming years.

The global climate change is already affected the Cambodia weather pattern. Has anyone noticed of drought, hotter temperature, and low yield in rice plantation. The current ruler of Cambodia MUST step to the plate to solve these problems. The more trees and slash/burn tactic of farming will not sustainable for long for Cambodia. As the Natural resources are being clear by illegal/tied to the govenment irresponsible.

Cambodia will sooner or later will turn to a Desert country. Facts: 6000 years ago the Sahara of Africa was once a lush green country. What does one see now. The soil needed moisture to countol ambien Temperature to maintain the natural water cycle. The rain will fall less and less when the trees are no longer there.

The Cascade Effect takes place. The trees withered and rices withered and DIE. The food becomes scarce. The WAR WILL BREAK OUT WHEN CAMBODIA NO LONGER CANNOT FEED THE 15 MILLIONS MOUTH.

IN APPROXIMATE TIME, 40 YEARS FROM NOW -- CAMBODIA WILL DOUBLE ITS POPULATION. WILL IT ABLE TO FEED THE 30 MILLIONS PEOPLE.

We have an arrogant government (CPP) body right now. They are utmost undereducated bodies in the system and nobody of the CPP clan has moral principle.

WAKE UP KHMER PEOPLE, CHANGE NOW FOR YOUR CHILDREN. WE ARE PART OF A SYSTEM. CPP YOU NEEDED TO STOP PUNISHING YOUR OWN CITIZENS AND NEEDED TO WORK FOR A COMMON CAUSE FOR THE GREATER GOOD.

it's called advancement in time. the old institute needs to catch up with changine society and changing time. and if we all wait or depend on only a few individuals to make a difference, then we all are so dumb. so, why not be proactive and try to help and make a difference for all to benefit, instead of sit and bitch or whine about it! be smarter, people! otherwise, don't be complaining about it!

300K more mouth each year should be fed from their own work.
If not they are undernourished or simply starved to death.
If not they will do whatever for food.
So what can we see? famine, war, plagues?
Don't believe it?
Who believe that KR will kill inspit of advanced warnings from the victims witness pre-1975?
CAMBODIA IS A LEADERLESS NATION !!!! SINCE AFTER ANGKOR ERA.
Who will see to solve the problems that lie ahead at the turn of the road?
Samdach Hun Sen? He cannot even see the economic downturn right in front of his view. How can he see the problems and commit to solve it when it will be in the very far 2 years, 5 years. Not to say in 30 years ahead or more?
Cambodian Youth! you like it or not, you accept it or not, you will confront the real hardship of life. your country leaders should tell you the truth, they should have the vision into which they lead you to, and have the abilities to achieve that goal. Not leaders who only promise, promise and make you sleep or give you false hope and you will wake up with desasters on you head.
If you haven't seen any, lear and train yourself to be leader of your own dstiny and the destiny of your country.
Cambodia is not only Mr Hun Sen country. It's yours as well.
