BANGKOK, Thailand — The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Wednesday expressed "deep disappointment" over the conviction of Myanmar pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
"Thailand, as the Asean Chair, has learned with deep disappointment that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was sentenced to serve 18 months of house confinement with limited freedom," said a statement released in Bangkok.
Aside from Myanmar and Thailand, the regional bloc includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.
