Phnom Penh will rebuild a Reconciliation Memorial in the name of past victims of the Khmer Rouge, including 2,000 Khmer Krom. Below is an article published by The Phnom Penh Post :
Thirty years after the Khmer Rouge executed thousands of Cambodians on a sugarcane field in Pursat, the Documentation Centre of Cambodia [DC-Cam] announced that a new memorial stupa will be built by the community with its assistance.
DC-Cam members and about 500 villagers from Pursat's Bakan district gathered next to that same field last Sunday, DC-Cam director Youk Chhang said, adding that it was then that he decided to help build a memorial to replace one that had rotted away.
On his return to Phnom Penh, he said he contacted Columbia University's architecture school for assistance.
More than 2,000 Khmer Krom were killed by the Khmer Rouge at the site, along with thousands more Cambodians brought from the Eastern District, Youk Chhang said .
The Cambodians from the Eastern District who tried to escape "ran to the houses of villagers, hoping to be saved. But they were killed right there by the villagers," he said.
This, he said, has led to lingering anger he hopes the memorial will help ease.
But Youk Chhang's interest in the site is also personal. His sister, a niece, nephew and brother-in-law all died in that commune.
"My sister was accused of eating stolen food," he said.
"So they brought my sister to the hospital where they cut her open to see if the food was there."
When Youk Chhang gave a speech to the Pursat community on August 2 [2009], he was facing that very hospital.
The Rumleach commune chief, Ouk Chanmuon, said the memorial will also educate the village's youths.
"It will be a historic place for the younger generations to learn about the place where a lot of people were killed during the Pol Pot regime," he said.

Concerning the Flag of Khmer Kampuchea Krom, I don’t quite understand since the Kampuchea Krom formerly and merely Kampuchea territory, why can Khmer Kroms share with the present flag Kingdom of Cambodia? This is why the history and land are split apart and forever. Also, I noticed most Khmer Kampuchea-Krom names used in Vietnamese named, why can they use real Cambodian name like the people in the Kingdom of Cambodia. This makes all Khmer Krom mostly reconize as ‘Vietnamese’. You can identify between Khmer Kampuhea-Krom and Khmers in the Kingdom of Cambodia as it is. Can somebody explain why?

Regarding the surname of the Khmer Kampuchea Krom, I think you should research on the history of Khmer Krom.
For the flag, this is a political reason...that you should find out why...??
khmer krom people did what they did was probably a result of fear living under the vietnamese rules and suppression. i think we can figure out why they seemed to use the vietnamese name when they live under the vietnamese rule, and when they come to cambodia, they try to change their name to khmer version. it's like remaining anonymous for safety and protection purpose. that why they are fighting to get rid of fear! they want their freedom anywhere they live. of course, the important thing is to maintain the khmer identity like language, custome and custom, etc... also, it is ok to be bilingual as well, however, they should be encouraged to keep khmer identity and must speak khmer like they speak vietnamese as well. they look khmer but many don't even speak khmer anymore. i think that ought to change. they all have to learn to speak khmer correctly and fluently because after all, khmer was their mother tongue, not vietnamese. they shouldn't have to live in fear in vietnam, that's the problem they have to fight for their freedom to be khmer. if the vietnamese gov't have problem with that, then cambodia gov't should tell the vietnamese who do business and live in cambodia the same thing. if they want to be fair, they must give the same rights to khmer krom living in the mekong delta like the way they care for their vietnamese economic refugees living and doing business in cambodia. otherwise, expect khmer people to treat the vietnamese in cambodia the way khmer krom are being treating in vietnam! what goes around comes around, you know! so, think about it!
I get your point, I could if I would do some research as your advised. However, I do know some Khmers in Cambodia now always against Vietnamese, ‘Youn’, and most people always say lot of ‘Youn’ in Cambodia. You can’t identify which is Khmer which is Youn and which is Khmer Kampuchea-Krom. The bottom line is ‘Youn’ says they are Khmer Kampuchea-Krom. You can’t tell if they are real Khmer-Krom.
Khmer Kampuchea-Krom they should used the flag as to the Kingdom of Cambodia flag at the present day instead. And start to use real Khmer name. The Cambodian names which I really like such as: Kao, Narin, Kolap, Rith, Rithy, Daravuth, Vuth, Bunna, Boravy, Devy, Bopha, and more, these ALL superior Khmer names. I’ve seen and met some Khmer Kampuchea-Krom in their Vietnamese names as: Dong, Duck, Diep, Jin, Ann, etc. For those who hate ‘Youn’, you should know what I meant. Thus, do not hate Khmer Rouge, K-Rouge had defended for our country.

i think the more important aspect here when we talk about khmer krom , khmer surin, etc, is the fact they do have to know khmer language fluently. otherwise, it was their own fault for not studying and wanted to learn khmer for some personal reason or whatever. i think they have to be told to learn to speak khmer clearly and fluently, that's include the ability to read and write the khmer language because they are khmer origin anyway. they shouldn't be ashame to be khmer and speak khmer even thought they were living overseas(overseas means they can be living anywhere on the planet outside of cambodia, that is). wake up khmer and be smart, look around the planet and learn!!!!!
actually, true khmer are very beautiful people. just look at the apsara dancers and the apsara carvings at angkor wat, etc... they are very beautiful khmer people! god bless cambodia.
Also one more just short, most Khmer Kampuchea-Krom they always speak in Vietnamese when they meet Khmer in social locality at home, family member, friends and at the public. Yes! Many Khmers in Kampuchea Krom, former territory of Khmer Empire, now Kampuchea, never think themselves as Yuon.
The Vietnamese assimilation system in hundreds of years upon the Khmer population by renaming the land to Vietnamese name, forced renaming the population of Khmers to take up Vietname name (Surname), rename mountains, rivers, provinces, district, communes, villages and even wats to this day.
After all that the Khmers continue call the land, Kampuchea Krom and eveything else in Khmers when speaking to themselves.
Publicly they have to say the new Vietnamese name. Otherwise they could be imprisoned for speaking publicly the name of Khmer Krom, Kmapuchea Krom, Prey Nokor, Oknha Son Kuy, for examples.
Successive Vientname kingdom, communist or republic always attempt to ban Khmer schooling and wats in Kampuchea Krom.
There is no Khmer language program in Vietnam.
So some Khmer Krom that know how to speak and write Khmer languae, they go to learn at wat.
Khmer language text and Buddhist text book from Kampuchea are now allowed into Kampuchea Krom by Vietnam.
Vietnamese can open banks, TV station, radio station, newspaper, telephone co., associations in all 24 provinces/cities in Kampuchea. But the Khmers in Kampuchea Krom can not do the same.
The Vietnamese do whatever it takes to make sure Khmer children in the past, present and in the future from speaking, writing and contact their own people in Kampuchea Krom and Kampuchea.

We all speak khmer and now how to writing in khmer language. Most of khmer-krom have lear to reading and writing, that person have to be studying at the Temple or they have to become a Monk.
Youn government never let khmer-krom have a chance to study khmer language at all. Most of elderly people they don't know how to speak Youn at all.

In Vietname, the Viet called Khmers as Vietnamese of Khmer descents.
In Kampuchea, some Khmers get mixed up and called the Khmer from Kampuchea Krom as Yuon.

I am sure people are concerning about the flag. But the reason that they have their own flag is because with the current Cambodia government. They are not counting Khmer Krom as Khmer citizen. I think there is a lot of Vietnamese influences over HUN SEN's regime for not counting Khmer Krom as a Cambodian citizen. I'm supporting them for having their own country and their own flay. Look at Kosovo, they are part of Albania but they can have their own flay and their own country. For this reason all parties doesn't want to upset Yugoslavia and most other world communities.

I knew exactly who is who Khmer Kampuchea-Krom is ‘Khmer’ however, they carried Vietnamese’ attitude. Okay let’s do this! Most Cambodian people now always say that there’s lot of Vietnamese in Cambodia, Right? Tell me!...Are they really Vietnamese or Khmer Kampuchea-Krom? I was a police man in Phnom Penh, I arrested a guy who stole a lady purse, that guy said he is Khmer Kampuchea-Krom and then I found out later that he was Vietnamese. Can you see my point now? When I conducted the investigation, he still keep saying that he came from Vietname and said that he is Khmer-Krom, when he meet his friend he spook well in Vietnamese. He is Vietnamese. You see a trick? Thus, there’s you can’t tell whether they are Vietnamese or Khmer-Krom, because they all speak in Vietnamese, not even fluent in Khmer. WHY CAN KHMER-KAMPUCHEA-KROM SPEAK FLUENTLY IN ‘KHMER LANGUAGUE’ because they don’t want to. Once again, they are in Vietnamese BRAIN. Can you judge whether Khmer or Khmer-Krom?

Let me tell you about Khmer, Khmer may or may not stand up this is due to their arrogant attitudes, especially to the wealthy and educated people. Very rarely you probably encounter Khmer who loved Khmer care about you, but if you are not high class, they probably could see you one time and there’s no more next time, so long. As to the Khmer Rouge, if they know you were Khmer Rouge, you can forget it, plus if you are black-Khmer not look to Chinese, you can be busting away. I am writing this doesn’t mean to cut down our Khmer citizen, however there’re mostly like this type of people here in Cambodia and abroad. Sorry please don’t get offend, we all Khmer.

1.The flag is not the reason that we should concern. Because, we need to identify KhmerKhrom as some of people has explained. Whenever our contry to be liberated. It's easy to change flag or color you want. it's a really political purpose.
2.We can not deport them to VN due to humanity and as a human being.otherwise, we are worst than animal.Why a lot of us living oversee?
As a human being, we should take a pitty to the poor or unfortunated people.
3. I wonder "Why" We don't ask Viet namese to leave our contry? Why we are concerning Khmer Khrom than Viet Namese?

Yes I know it is hard for you to identify between Khmer Krom and yuon because you have never been living among them.
Sorry to boast a bit that I am the one who can tell you between Khmer Krom or yuon. They have a completely different accent. I also can identify very well about Khmer Phnom Penh, Khmer Siem Riep, Khmer Takeo Kampot and Khmer Battambong. But other part of Cambodian I don't know.
Vietnamese speaking Khmer different from Khmer Krom and Khmer Krom also has different accent from place to place as well. For instance Khmer Krom Preah Tro Peang's is far different from Khmer Krom An Giang Moat Chrouk. And Khmer Krom Srok Treng and Pol Leo Teuk Khmao are different again. Well, Well, Well, let me make this short, for those who write long sentence I won't have time to read it all. I knew the history of the Kingdom of Cambodia since day one. Let chat in present day, it seems very mixture between Khmer Kampuchea-Krom, Vietnamese and the Khmer in Cambodia now, I heard most the people always say there’s lot of Vietnamese in Cambodia and I do believe that. I live in Siem Reap and I travel a lot in the country during the day and night, my home town is in ‘Pdak’, Siem Reap province. I love Khmer, the reason why I bring up regarding to the Khmer Kampuchea-Krom and flag, because most people here in Cambodia have been saying that lot of Vietnamese in Cambodia, all I’ve seen is Khmer-Krom, now I don’t really know which is Khmer Krom and which is Vietnamese, it’s hard to identify whether they are real Khmer Kampuchea-Krom, all they speak is Vietnamese when they get in group and even if they meet the same Khmer-Krom they do speak in Vietnamese. There’s nothing wrong with that they have the right. This is why most of the people say ‘lot of Vietnamese in Cambodia’. You get my point now? Some Vietnamese when I arrested for stealing or other issue which they’ve committed, they claim they are Khmer Kakmpuchea-Krom cam from Kampuchea-Krom. Who do you believe?
Once again, concerning the flag, they must change if now in order to reflex the current flag in the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the world would recognize that Kampuchea-Krom was a Khmer territory, during the French colonized cut to Vietnam. This show to the world that South Vietnam was Cambodia. Am I right?
You put the blame on Khmer Rouge. Also, somebody here said that I don’t make no sense and repeat the same sentence. Sorry who is perfect in here, absolutely no body is ‘Perfect’. Exactly the opposite. Right now when the international communities see the Blue, Yellow, and Red flag, they see and understand the situation in Kampuchea-Krom (Mekong Delta).
Can you believe it that a member of the KKF youth informed me that this year when they registered for their name tag to enter the United Nation during the UNPFII 2009; instead of putting Vietnam as the country they are from, they were ask to put in KAMPUCHEA-KROM.
Wow! I was very impressed. In just a short amount of time KKF has accomplished so much.
Why would you want to change the flag when everyone knows and recognize it already?
Let's make it short!...Kampuchea-Krom is apart from Cambodia. Khmer Kampuchea-Krom wants to cliam that they ownd the country since day one. Kampuchea-Krom is the oldest country in Southeast Asia then Cambodia next.
This is what the Khmer Kampuchea-Krom feel. Khmer Kampuchea-Krom always say they loved all Khmer in Cambodia, however they are still Youn brain. Khmer-Krom never been true to Khmer in Cambodia. Very rarely in some case. No matter what, they are still 'YOUN' brain. Again, please go back to Vietnam to find you jobs.

Let me say something about the flag and why KK use their own flag not the Kampuchea leu's flag?
Can you answer me, can Kampuchea leu intervene and protect them from Vietnam's oppression? Can Kampuchea leu put the case to the UN and talk on their behalf?
Have you seen your government do something to protect them apart from arresting them for Yuon? Can you identify Tim Sakhon is he Khmer Krom or yuon?
Now have got the point, if they use the same flag what would happen? I don't need to say much more let you use your brain.

Well let me provide you the answers:
1) Khmer Kampuchea-Krom uses their own flag, because they wanted to be apart from Kampuchea Leu (Cambodia). Show to the world that there’s a country in Southeast Asia “Kampuchea-Krom’, it’s a Khmer-Vietnam country found since day one.
2) Kampuchea Leu (Cambodia) to intervene and protect them from Vietnam, because Khmer Kampuchea-Krom is tough to comply with, they are in ‘YOUN’ brain. They want to be the owner and decision maker. This is why Khmer Kampuchea-Leu (Cambodia) having a hard time to deal with. Of course! Kampuchea-Leu (Cambodia) could submit the case to the UN base on the History and land, however this depend on Khmer Kampuchea-Krom should help to unite and corporate together.
3) This is tough between you (Khmer Kampuchea-Krom) and ‘YOUN’ to work with. You speak Vietnamese very well and don’t know who is who? to believe. Yes! Honorable Tim Sakon is a Khmer Kampuchea-Krom, he is a monk.
4) If Khmer Kampuchea-Krom would use the same flag, as Kampuchea-Leu (Cambodia), this would show to the world that Kampuchea-Krom is part of Cambodia. We used to have a great Kingdom of Cambodia until French colonized cut land to Vietnam. (You must use the same flag now for the next generation)

We know where you are trying to go with your innocent question. You just want Khmer Leu, Krom-Krom, and other Khmers out there to not trust Khmer-Krom. By saying that Khmer-Krom has a YOUN brain. So innocent indeed. Try to pull a good one there.
