Mea Culpa (I recognize my culpability): Duch

Duch Would Accept Stoning for His Crimes

By Kong Sothanarith, VOA Khmer

The former chief of a notorious Khmer Rouge prison said on Wednesday he wished he could be stoned to death for his crimes, as people in the Bible had.

“If it were the Khmer culture, like after the death of Jesus Christ, of people throwing stones…I would accept if the Cambodian people did the same,” said Duch, a born-again Christian facing atrocity crimes charges for the deaths of 12,380 people.

His statement followed a claim for justice by Ou Thon, 64, who said she lost all four of her children and her husband to the Khmer Rouge, at the killing fields of Choeung Ek, which were administered by Duch.

Duch, 66, whose real name is Kaing Kek Iev, admitted it was the Cambodian people who suffered the most under the regime.

I recognize my culpability,” he said.

Dear Sir,

Khmer Rouge Pol Pot, Nuon Chea, Ieng Sary, Khieu Samphan, Ta Mok, Son Sen, ... killed more than 4.5 million innocent Cambodians during their reign of terror from 1970 to 1998.

Those guys must be stone to death if they want to do so in Pursat province. Criminal Kaing Kek Iev alias Duch has claimed that he want to be stone to death like Jesus Christ's disciples.

Thank.

Ly

Dear LY,

4.5 million killed?
How did you calculate your estimate?
At this rate by 2011 we should be at 6 million and in 2013 we should be at 7.7 million. How strange it will be if by then you're still around to write on this blog.

When you mess around with numerical estimates they become a double edged sword. By writing such things you do a disservice to the search for truth and ultimately to justice.
Your fantasy is no better than that of a Khmer Rouge who claims only 60 000 Cambodians died under A-Pot.

Have a nice day
