On 04 August, Mrs. Mu Sochua indicated that she and the SRP still maintain their stance of not negotiating with the government in exchange for the return of her parliamentary immunity.

Mrs. Mu Sochua made this declaration during a press conference at the SRP headquarters following the announcement of her verdict in Phnom Penh. The press conference was attended by both national and international reporters. Mrs. Mu Sochua commented that she is asking for an end to the culture of begging for pardon from the government, and she would rather see that the court provides justice to her instead.

Mrs. Mu Sochua said: “The judge said that Mrs. Kong Sam Onn [Mu Sochua’s former defense lawyer] was let go because he begged for pardon. As for me, if it is done according to the law, the [guilty] verdict should be handed down to the guilty party. The verdict should be done according to the law, not according the begging for pardon.”

Clash between cops and Mrs. Mu Sochua’s supporters

Following the guilty verdict handed down to Mrs. Mu Sochua, and the 16.5 million riels fine imposed on her, opposition leader Sam Rainsy and a number of other SRP MPs, as well as about 200 other people started to march from the Phnom Penh municipal court to the SRP headquarters. During the march, a brawl took place with armed cops along the marching route and violence took place to oppose the march.

Sam Rainsy condemned the hundreds of cops who used violence on the peaceful march, calling the cop action a serious violation of human rights.

Sam Rainsy said: “They do not allow people to use their rights, this action is condemned by freedom-loving people and by democratic people.”

Ho Sirin, a SRP activist, was beaten by the cops when he was trying to protect Mrs. Mu Sochua during the police brawl. He said: “The cops pushed Mrs. Mu Sochua, I pushed one of them out, he was angry with me and he kicked me. The cops came back to her again, I pushed them back again, then about 20-30 cops came to strangle me.”

Ong Yentieng, government spokesman and chairman of the government human right commits, declined not comment in this brawl case. He indicated that he was busy in a meeting. RFA could not reach any other government officials to obtain clarification on this issue.

A joint SRP and HRP statement was issued, it rejected the verdict handed down to Mrs. Mu Sochua by the PPenh municipal court on 04 August.

In this statement, the opposition parties also called on the international community to continue paying attention and to follow up on the situation in order to prevent the use of the defamation [lawsuit] and the judicial system to crack down critics. The opposition also called on the international community to push the government to apply with fruitful results the judicial reform and it must also force the government to apply all the principles of plural democracy.

Disgrace Mu Sochua’s problem all along, is that she is trying to be a politician. She's not, never has been and quite obviously, never will be. She should have just been herself, provide alternative policies and show Khmer people what a great alternative MP opposition she would be. Instead, her foray into being a politician has been a disaster. She comes across as pretending to be something she's not. Now, her political career is on the line and herself also in the hot water.

While the nation is facing complex economic, social and environmental issues disgrace Mu Sochua tried to promote her political stunt, aimed to get media attention. If this wasn’t such a clear demonstration of her selfish pursuit of personal ambition it would be laughable. There is no doubt that Mu Sochua has no real regard for the best interest of the nation. She is driven solely by a desire to become a “Champion of Women” by any means available to her, even if that has the potential to destabilize the country. Even worse she now says that she will appeal her case against Prime Minister Hun Sen to the Appeal court following the announcement of her guilty verdict by the Phnom Penh municipal court.

People of integrity admit their faults, make amends and are judged fairly...Disgrace Mu Sochua is lacking in integrity and common sense and tries to change Cambodia into her own world. As long as Cambodia’s Court doesn’t issue any verdict which is fitted for her political stunt, she will scream for the justice all day long.

Mrs. Mu Sochua is a brave and dedicated woman to the course of justice and human right for the people in Cambodia. She gave up her comfortable life in US to work on what she believe which benefit to people all walk of life no matter what. As Cambodian living in Cambodia with less education I really admire her courage and her determination. In Cambodian society, the high ranking officials treat women as their disposal commodities and no one dare to contest. Evidently, Piseth Polika, Touch Sunnich, and Pauv Phanhapich were the victims of these human tragedy caused from those Excellencies. But Mrs Mu’s action will make the ground shaking.

Regrettably, some persons such as the so-called ITSELF Khmer Australia failed to see that. Even this block lives in Australia, this well developed country with the best education system in the world and high in moral fails to help him. The level of his ignorance is beyond belief. Australia can only help him up to this primitive level. His brain will not grow any better than this. I hope his pen name will not stain on other good Khmer Australian. Imagine if he lives in Cambodia like me. He may be worst than Pol Pot, or just a very low scum in the society.

My dear Khmer Australian! I really respect the freedom of your speech, but your intelligent does not reflect where you live at all. Try to educate yourself more by reading more reports which I believe more available in Australia. Next time you comment with more senses, then you earn some respect.

The dictator took shit for flower and put it on his face. He thinks that his looks good with this. A justice system, reduced to a mere instrument to perpetrate crimes against Cambodians, has no idea what so ever about justice. Corrupted judges can only follow orders from politicians. Soon this evil man will encounter the same fate as his Vietnamese buddy Hok Lundy. Killed by lightning struck and be remembered as disgrace small dictator, with only one ambition in mind which is to perpetuate the dictatorship on Cambodia to serve his Vietnamese master.

As I used to post in this forum that I have dual citizens (Khmer and Australian). So, I have full right to call myself that Khmer Australian, even though, you guys don’t like it, but I don’t care. There is no doubt that you and other stupid SRP’s supporters always saying that good Khmer Australian means support SRP and against PM Hun Sen. Indeed, you guys also called any Khmer who supports the CPP is Vietnamese. The so called you said that you really respected my freedom of speech is just your pretext to cover up your extreme ideas in attacking whoever supports the CPP. If I posted any topic which criticized PM Hun Sen or attack the CPP, Will you and SRP use any bad word to me?.

It’s laughable when I saw you wrote about “Earn some respects” Who care about your respect?? Do I want and will attempt to earn any respect from you or SRP and its thick face group???. I don’t think so! However, SRP always needs my money and shameless in asking me to donate money to its party; but unfortunately, I have never donated and will never do it in the future.

What I wrote about Cambodia’s politics is my own opinion. If you don’t like it, it is your problem. Actually, educated people won’t use any bad language to attack other people in personal when they disagreed about politics but it becomes an obvious for you and SRP. You are so good about it. Khmer Australian like me won’t able to compete with you guys at all.
