Phnom Penh - The son of an opposition parliamentarian was shot dead late Sunday in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. Yont Thauron, 25, the son of Yont Tharo, a member of parliament for the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), was shot while returning from a wedding after the vehicle in which he was travelling was involved in a minor traffic accident.
Veteran SRP politician Son Chhay said the party is concerned the killing could have a political dimension.
"In the past, opposition members have been easy targets for (criminal acts)," he said.
But the city's police chief, Touch Narath, flatly rejected any suggestion of political overtones.

I think jumping conclusion is what most people do and they do it on their bias. The more logical and educated way to decision making is to investigate the circumstance and not have a pre-determined mentality for such an event like this.
This is of course a case of criminality but we won't know if it's political or not. I hate it when politicians turn everything into a political game. I hope this man's death won't be taken advantage of by any party because it's just disrespectful and disgraceful to the family and the deceased man alike.
I hope police will be able to cacth the real criminal,otherwise it will be critised that police can only threathen the innocent cambodians.
I have learnt that reform has taken place,which means that Touch Narath has ability to find killer.

It is hard to say this killing is politically motivated or not, but whenever the Phnom Penh police cannot arrest the real perpetrator...the question of incompetent and politicized policemen in Cambodia is endless debated.

According to DAP of Soy Sopheap, a accident lead to this crime. It sounds very cruel, even though it is reasonable. The latest information from Touch Narath in an interview with RFA, he the murderer is still at large. So for me, it is very difficult to believe that the gunman can escape so easily. Because generally, if there is accident on the street, many Phnom Penh residents will surround the scene and the police will arrive immediately.
An accident with what? Did the culprit have a car, if they did ..it should not be too hard to locate.
Cambodian government should stop the crime, it is invole with political that why they kill the young man, do they understand that they kill theire own people.

Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen Khmer Rouge Regime had committed acid attack.
"On December 5, 1999, Tat Marina, age 16, was severely disfigured in an acid attack in Phnom Penh. The attack was allegedly committed by Khun Sophal, the wife of a senior government official, Svay Sitha, because she was angry her husband had a sexual relationship with Tat Marina. Neither Khun Sophal nor those suspected of being her accomplices in the attack were brought to justice. Intense media publicity compelled the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to issue an arrest warrant for Khun Sophal for attempted murder, but the police claimed that they could not locate her, although journalists reported that she was living at home as usual."

TORTURE AND MURDER ON PRAK SITHA WHILE IN CUSTODY BY MISNISTRY OF INTERIOR OFFICIAL
Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen Khmer Rouge Regime had committed torture and murder.
"On the night of January 16, 2003, a street youth named Prak Sitha was beaten to death at the Ministry of Interior (MOI) headquarters after he was arrested and detained by off-duty MOI officers on suspicion of theft. His body - bearing numerous injuries to the head, torso, arms, and legs - was dumped at a Phnom Penh pagoda the following morning by ministry officers, in violation of police regulations regarding deaths in custody. No criminal charges were filed in connection with this death. In December 2004, the case was cited by the UN secretary-general's special representative for human rights in Cambodia - who stated that Prak Sitha died at the ministry "following beatings by a known police officer" - as an example of a "consistent and continuing pattern of impunity" in Cambodia."

Mean Sokchea, in a drunken stupor, fired his gun and apparently mistakenly hit Put Samphors in the stomach. She was taken to a hospital but later died of her wounds. Mean Sokchea was detained by the police overnight but was then released, allegedly after intervention by Hing Bun Heang. Put Samphor's family received US$2,700 from Mean Sokchea, and the police told them that their daughter was shot while authorities were chasing robbers."

They will announce to the international and they take over as like Campuchea Krom.
