Thailand, Cambodia To Speed Up Single Visa Scheme

BANGKOK, Aug 5 (Bernama)-- Thailand and Cambodia on Wednesday agreed to speed up a single visa plan under the Ayeyawaddy-Mekong-Chao Phraya Economic Cooperation (ACMECS) grouping to boost tourism between the two neighbours, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.

Thailand's Minister of Foreign Affairs Kasit Piromya leading the Thai delegation and his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong met in the 6th Meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation between Thailand and Cambodia (JC) held here on Wednesday.

The ministers told a joint news conference that their countries agreed to hasten the ACMECS Single Visa plan so that foreign visitors with a visa to either country can travel in both without having to apply for another entry visa.

The single visa is aimed at boosting tourism in both countries.

The ACMECS had since 2003 grouped Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam to use their varied strengths to promote balanced development in the sub-region.

Hor Namhong said that the meeting also considered opening a new permanent border crossing between Thailand's Sa Keao and Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey provinces.

The Cambodian minister said the new crossing will ease transport of agricultural produce between the countries.

For the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, he said the countries will sign an agreement on visa exemptions for holders of ordinary passports.

The Cambodian foreign minister said the agreement will facilitate travel within the two kingdoms by their citizens, and help promote a better understanding and relationship.

The ministers also inked a pact on transferring sentenced persons and co-operation in enforcing prison sentences, an agreement which is aimed at boosting cooperation and improved law enforcement and judicial administration in both countries, as well as to benefit prisoners on humanitarian grounds.

Regarding the border clash between Thailand and Cambodia after last year's listing of the Preah Vihear temple as a World Heritage site by the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), both countries agreed to solve the conflict at the Joint Border Commission (JBC).

The Joint Technical Committee will also speed up the negotiations over the overlapping maritime area, as earlier agreed by their leaders.

The Thai minister said the joint commission meeting also agreed to resolve the landmine problem along the shared border as soon as possible.

"After the development of Highway Route 68 connecting Kralanh with the town of O'Smach near the Thai border, trades and investment between Thailand and Cambodia will be carried out with convenience and more safety," Kasit said.

The Thai Cabinet earlier approved a Bt1.4 billion (US$41.2 million) soft loan to Cambodia for upgrading its Highway Route 68 under a 30-year contract.

Hello PPU,

You sound like a reasonable guy at the end of your journey in KI forum.

I have wondered all a long why you have been so angry with a lot of people in this forum; after all, many of us here are Khmer sharing the same blood, language, culture, food, dream, desire for the best for Cambodia and so many other things.

Other people here have been so impatient with you too and for that reason a lot of bad words have been exchanged, which is very unfortunate. Politicians work and dine together at the end of the day and we are getting at each other's throat in this forum!

It is too bad Hun Sen cannot move one step in the direction of Sam Rainsy and Sam Rainsy did the same in the direction of Hun Sen for the sake of Cambodia, our beloved country. Cambodian politicians have a long way to go to be considered true public servants.

We have to learn to accept the fact that we can never always be in agreement and the worst that can happen in any political discussion or any contentious issues is our willingness to look at each other in the face with a smile and agree to disagree without holding any grudges.

All the best to you in your future endeavors

Anet Khmer

Whoever signed a one visa deal w/ Ah Siem is mentally retarded.
Does Cambodia got any percentages of the visa fee from those tourists who stopped at Siem first?
Just think about how many direct flights come to Cambodia? How many tourists come to Camobodia first then go to Siem later?
All of Khmer leaders(ministries)are so dump, when they got a few thousands dollar bribe, they will sign any papers/deal.
Cambodian's neighbors know the trick how to take advantage of this dump leaders and Khmer people will pay the price.
You all the ministers(Assholes) should go to learn how to do simple math again before you die.

Cambodia has potential tourism, but whatever she does, give more benefits to Thai.

The Government does not study thoroughly, just follow the foreign experts and the people kiss ass.

i know, people should always keep in mind that it is about cambodia, the country, not anyone individual in particular. people all grow old and die, but the country will always exist forever. people must keep that in mind all the time, especially politicians out there! cambodia is more important for all khmer than who doing what to who or whatever the case may be. i think our khmer people should often be reminded that nation is more important than this trivial things that people are arguing about. we all should empower our khmer language, khmer identity, country and so forth. stop the nonsense already!

Do not spend time to meet and negotiate with Siamese thieve. Just tell Siamese King that Khmer have not thing to negotiate with, no land or sea ever overlaps. Back off and withdraw your troop from Khmer land then talks.

Let's see what will it do to Cambodian?

Good:

Khmer knows Thai language will have a job and same goes with the Thai.

Needs Medical treatment anyone? Bangkok sounds better than Hanoi. Absolutely! Why? Bangkok is closer to the West than Hanoi. Their people are more educated and having better understanding of what going on in the world than the communist country. Cambodian's proverb did say " Sitting by the coal, can make you dark and sitting by the light can make bright ". Just remember what your mother told you.

What else is good in getting along with Thailand?

Importing good can be cheaper, because now vietnam isn't the only good producers which will sell in Cambodia.

Cultural exchange? Khmer can still learn a few tricks from Thai. Same with The Thai.

Tourism industry? Definitely will be prospered. If people from other part of the world can travel easily to Thailand. They can do the same with Cambodia. One package, they can see it all. Touring Thailand, Cambodia, Loas and Vietnam in one complete package. Poor Burma or Myanmar :(. She will get left out in the cold. All because of that idiots Tan Swee and his militants men.

Not just tourism alone. All kinds of trades will expect to come along with it. Remember in the 70's, Pos Keng Kong goes to Thailand and Nokor Srey Lvo came to Cambodia in Cambodian's language. Mayoura production rolling your sleeves up and get ready.

Bad:

Mix up identity.
Day to day comparison/ great competition ( It might not be as bad )
Missing stuff # 1
Freaking out local people # 2.
Think our government will worry about the poor Khmer that will get run over by the foreigners? Think again. They don't give a ....That is really really bad.

They all did it for two things. That is Business and money or $$$$. Who wouldn't anyway? Guess, let's just get on the wagon and will see. Most of us do speak English by now which is good. Keep learning other major languages such as Chinese English and French or even Spanish if you can. Spanish's sound can drive you crazy, but.

Wait!

When Ricky Martin sings that's a different story. He definitely will melt your heart away in his romantic songs. The man is a great singer. Spanish language suddenly sounds so beautiful!

All communist countries even they know what goes on in the world and it's better, they usaully don't share with their people. They just don't appreciate it to begin with. Let alone sharing with us. So we don't gain much. If anything at all.
