Investments from Vietnam and Thailand to Cambodia increased by 85.3 and 87.2 percent respectively in the first half of this year, despite a sharp fall from other countries, according to the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

Vietnam’s total investment capital has increased from US$16.7 million to US$178 million and Thailand’s from US$22.7 million to US$178 million, says Young Heng, a senior official from the CDC.

Vietnamese investment has focused on such areas as rubber plantation, post and telecommunications and transportation while Thai investment has been poured into sugar processing projects including the construction of two sugar mills worth US$158 million.

These investments will help generate jobs and contribute to boosting economic development in Cambodia, says the CDC official.

bullshit, we ought to be smart about it. remember it's cambodia that they want to do business with, so we demand they respect our laws, learn our language, learn our customs and etiquette, etc... if they fail to do so, they will be deported from cambodia. so, we should worry about them invading or take over or stealing from us like during the dark ages again. i say if they make food stuff in cambodia, they have to make sure it is in khmer writings, too. we must required them to learn khmer and of course respect our law, khmer ways, etc... be smart, cambodia!

also, keep in mind that cambodia is not in the dark ages or the stone ages anymore, so viet and siem thugs, stop dreaming of owning cambodia, because this time around khmer people will break all you teeth in your mouth. we required that you and your business must comply with our khmer law and constitution, etc. and you must respect our customs and local etiquette, khmer ways, khmer culture and beliefs, etc... if you do illegal thing or not respect and try to learn our khmer language, culture, laws, etc., i'm sure khmer people will call for our gov't attention to deport you all from our country. so, it's a fair warning for viet and siem businesses, etc... god bless cambodia and all our beautiful khmer people and citizens.

Whatever they do, Khmer must be more careful with Thai/Viet that always taken advantaged on Khmer since day one, cambodia is in 21 cent. don't let them fools you like they used to....

in this mordern day, it is political correct to use the word "investment". but don't forget, yuon and siam have been trying to tear Khmer up apart for ages.

siam has learned something important from yuon. they see yuon has been "soft", both economically and politically, with khmer, therefore, they are starting to use the same political tactic "soft" with khmer.

if khmer don't wake up on time, soon there will be no more cambodia on the map.

If Thai respect our sovereighty by withdrawing their force from khmer soil now,i think Thai are more suitable to be with than yuon because our two culture are almost similar.Quite the contrary,we just can't stand with yuon no matter what. They are so stink, their language is so difference from khmer's, and most of all yuons are weird.Khmer can live easily without yuon.

to the contrary, yuon can NEVER live without khmer. that has been the main reason why yuons have been keeping scooting their border posts into Dey Khmer.

The patterns of the Vietnam and Thailand's intentions are crystal clear toward Cambodia. They both are the opportunists. They exploit us at our weaknesses. Vietnam tried before but failed during the Khmer Rouge. They stayed in Cambodia for more than a decade with the intention to colonize or annex Cambodia; if it wasn't for the UN, U.S and the rest of world Cambodia would be part of Vietnam in some ways today. Now they try new approach using politics and market economy simultaneously as a silent invading.

Soft invasion:

Send their people to live in Cambodia, the more the better, and encourage them to be active in politics.

Invest heavily in businesses to one day control Cambodia economy and people. Once they achieve these two goals, Vietnam will one day take over Cambodia internally and politically.

As for now, all those little achieves are made possible by Hun Sen. Because Vietnam knows Hun Sen loves power and they do anything to make sure he is the top dog in Cambodia. So, he can continue to bully and terrorize his own people or do whatever he wants as long as he listen to them. The harder he do it, the better it is for Vietnam because that will do one thing: break our trust for each other.

In case of trouble, Vietnam will back Hun Sen 100 percent.

If it's the case then we should let them have it.It will be less stress for us to worry about.

12:58PM! i totally agree with your comments 100%! i think YOUNs is very dangerous than Thai, because they are more Chinese and their culture are the same as Chinese people, believe me! they hated khmer krom and all khmer so much! they just wanted all white skins on their country....they called khmer people "DUMBCOW" nghu yee bo!

i would like to add that of course khmer people can't total trust youn and siem, our historical enemies; however, even siem's culture was heavily borrowed and influenced by khmer's, we should not completely trust siem either. sometimes, they will use that as an excuse to violate cambodia. so, just be smarter because that's right, we are not in the dark age or stone age anymore. they all have to respect and obey our khmer constitution and law, culture, customs and etiquette, etc, etc... no exception for their historical enemies again! and yes, keep it all business!

I agree with 8:33 AM that all food products manufactured in Cambidia should have labels written in Cambidian language along with Thai, Viet and English. I saw a lot of dried fishes, Rices, fruits and now sugar, produced in Cambidia sold in the USA that have no Cambodian words on the packages or labels. What ashame. Our goverment and the law-makers should make this a law.

they probably thinking cambodia is still in the dark ages. we must remind them that this is a new cambodia and cambodia is not in the dark ages anymore, so if they illegally broke our khmer law, they will be deported for sure, really fast this time. khmer people now required them to learn our khmer language, khmer cutoms and etiquette, and they must assimilate into khmer society. otherwise, they are not welcome and will surely to deported soon! god bless cambodia.
