A bank robbery at the Phnom Penh International Airport took place at 9:30PM on 22 September 2009. The victim of the robbery was Sothavy, a 20-year-old female employee of the Cambodia Asia Bank, located inside the Phnom Penh International Airport. Local news report indicated that the robber took off with $38,471. 35-year-old Chao Ratana was the identified robber, he is a male employee of the bank also. News report indicated that, prior to the robbery, the victim was sitting and working at her currency exchange station when the robber pointed a knife to threaten her. The robber then tied her hands and legs with electrical cord, and he also taped her mouth with scotch tape so that she would not yell. The robber told her frankly that: “I beg your pardon, my niece, don’t yell, I will not do anything to you, I only take the money because I am in dire situation.” After tying up the female employee, the robber proceeded to hastily search for money in the bank office and he walked out of the bank to safely flee in his car. The robbery took place without the cops being alerted because it was conducted very quietly.

USA maybe safe than Cambodia. cos every american citizen can carry a gun. i think cambodia should do that too. every legal age can carry a gun. open a gun store in cambodia is a good biz tho.

it probably goes to show that cambodia must step up security at banks and other important locations. this is common sense as well, even in the western countries, they have security guards at banks, supermarkets, etc before closing time. cambodia needs to step up and improve this sector of business because not only it discourages robbery at these locations, it is also a smart and clever way to protect business and do business as well anywhere in cambodia. please think about it! it could happen anywhere, not just in cambodia. remember, thieves look for opportunity, and will use it when they see one lack of security, etc...

oh come on, even the best high tech security bank in the US can be robbed. Yeah the bright side is no one get hurt. Who know, maybe this is a setup between the two employees, one play victim, one play thief.

i know, we see it all the time in the local news all over the world. so, nothing to be alarmed about in cambodia or anywhere in the world, it could happen! it is ignorant to let this isolated incidence scared people away from doing business in cambodia. it could and have happened everywhere, even in the USA; i see it on the news all the time. big deal. just step up more security because it helps to create jobs for the local people as well. that's all.

How do we know that the police is not in on it? People,
we're talking about a bank inside the airport. It's a set up!
How many robber that's brave enough to walk into an airport and robbed the bank.....let alone by himself.

10:48,
an ordinary citizens can't afford to buy or arms themselves with a hand gun. Your idea does not benefit the poor, only the rich. Plus, Cambodia lack of laws to protect the poor and their judicial systems favor's the rich. Therefore, you can't compared the US to a lawless country that dictate by 3 blind mice.

11:19,
more business mean more land grabbing from the poor.
Your idea doesn't serve any purpose either.
Anyone with ideas that will benefits the poor?

Come one, it's a $38,471--leave the kid alone, for crying out loud. What the hell! Look on the bright side, Ah Sen has stolen billions of dollars from his people, yet the son-of-bitch still in charge of the country; this shit head should be the one needs to be brought and put behind bars.
