Canadian Govt is also following up on SRP MP Mu Sochua's case

Dear Ms. Ma,

Thank you for your letter to Minister Cannon concerning the Government of Cambodia's legal action against Ms. Mu Sochua. I have been asked to respond on his behalf.

Let me assure you that the promotion and protection of human rights is an integral part of Canadian foreign policy. Canada stands up for human rights and takes principled positions on important issues to promote freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Cambodia and the Asian region.

Canada is committed to democracy in Cambodia. Through the Cambodia-Canada Legislative Support Project, Canada is helping to improve Cambodian parliamentarians' skills to draft and review legislation and increase their abilities to question and debate legislation through training and technical assistance. The project is also helping to improve public consultation mechanisms and to build the capacity of Parliament Secretariats to manage, administer and support the work of the National Assembly and Senate through better research and analytical support.

The Department of Foreign Affairs actively monitors developments in Cambodia and has been closely following Ms. Mu's case through the Canadian Cooperation Office and the Cambodia-Canada Legislative Support Project, both located in Phnom Penh. Our officers have been in frequent contact with Ms. Mu.

Canada will continue to encourage democracy and the rule of law, including an independent judiciary, in Cambodia when meeting with Cambodia officials.

Thank you for writing.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Macartney
Director General
South, Southeast Asia & Oceania
Bureau

please also keep in mind that there are more to camboda than just ms. mu sochua and whoever. in other words, cambodia is not just about ms. mu, it we failed to see a bigger picture, then we really need to be educated thoroughly on cambodia. you can't just be gullible with one person and ignore the rest of cambodia. did you all know even ms mus and her political group are very biased with other political party members in cambodia? if you are not aware of this by now, you must be asleep and not doing your homework by reading up and do a reality check in person in the words of the former USA's president, the honorable mr. ronald reagon, "trust, but verify." please wake up as well. it is true to say that there are more to cambodia than ms. much and i or what have you.

What is bias you mean here? Mrs.Mu was biasedly judged by the biased court of Cambodia.

Mu's case is not comparable bias to the one-sided media in Cambodia. I know you are ignorantly influenced by the biased media in Cambodia.
