[Thai] Govt trying for good ties with Cambodia

30/09/2009
Bangkok Post

The government has been trying to maintain a good relationship with Cambodia and is cautious when making comments about the disputed border near Preah Vihear temple, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said on Wednesday.

"The government does not want to exacerbate the situation, but it must protect the sovereignty of the country at the same time," said Mr Suthep, who is in charge of security affairs.

People from the two countries can live together as usual, but the yellow-shirt People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) should be more careful in their activities over the border row, he said.

Last week, PAD protesters gathered near the ancient temple to demand the Cambodian government remove its people from the disputed border area.

The government had already asked the Cambodian government about the roads it built to the ancient temple, but the roads can be used by people from both countries, Mr Suthep said.

Mr Suthep said he believed the National Anti-Corruption Commission's ruling against former prime minister Samak Sundaravej and former foreign minister Noppadon Pattama was rational.

The anti-graft agency on Tuesday voted 6-3 to bring charges against Mr Samak and Mr Noppadon for neglect of duty under Article 157 of the Criminal Code over their support of the joint communique with Cambodia on the listing of Preah Vihear temple as a world heritage site.

Meanwhile, Thai troops have been reinforced at the entrance to Khao Phra Viharn National Park in Si Sa Ket province, and people are not being not allowed on Mo I Daeng Cliff, which overlooks the temple.

On the Cambodian side, there were reported to be many well-armed Cambodian troops near the 11th century temple.

Kind of comment will not help our country Cambodia. I always trust and believe, that my Khmer brothers are respectful, lovely, civilized people and of course very well educated from our ancestors.

Thailand had trying to maintain a good relationship with Cambodia by allowing their soldier to keep shooting and burning unarmed poor khmer people who just looks for works in Thai villages, Thailand is not mature and modern country, Thailand is lawless and cowards country...

The present conflict with Thailand should serve to remind every Khmer citizen wherever he or she happens to live that unity among the Cambodians are very crucial to the survival of our people and nation.

We cannot afford neither now nor in the future to fight among ourselves.

Compromise, understanding, forgiveness and willingness to work together among all of us with different political stripes are the key to our survival and strength to face the never-ending aggression from our neighbours.

Stand united at all times!

Abhisit Vejjajiva is using land invasion as a scaped goat because they are going through their political turm oils. So, their government is trying to change the topic by misleading Seim people to focus on other things rather than on him as an incapable Prime Minister and they know it too well that the Temple is belonging to Khmer people but yet they are trying to make trouble to convey the Thai people to focus on something else rather than on him, on the other hand, it is a way of getting their people back on track, like instead of fighting with each why not fight with the Khmer? This is called politic! They are trying to promote love and unity for their own people and stop fighting each other. So, therefore Khmer government needs to learn more about politicians' intention because it could lead into an effective outcome for the whole nation just like Thai government does. Aust

The Reaksmei Kampuchea Daily reported that on the midnight of 27th September, a group of Cambodian and Thai soldiers based on borders in OuddorMeanchey province have engaged in a brief gunbattle.

A Cambodian military source said that a group of Thai soldiers have launched an attack on a group of Cambodian soldiers who were on patrol at 2.30 am along the borders at Kbal Ansong point west of Choam Sa-Ngam Pass in Anlong Veng district. The Cambodian soldiers have exercised their self-defence by returning fires.

The fighting only lasted a few minutes and there was no reported casualty from either side.

I've found it hard to believe that they wants to be nice with Cambodia with all these years..

Then Cambodia must raise the issue in ASEAN and please bring this case to international level.
Below here is what Thai PM's said..
"Thailand will not raise the Thai-Cambodian border conflict to the international level as the country hopes to solve the problem through dialogue at the Joint Commission for Land Boundary, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva (pictured) said on Wednesday.

The conflict will not be raised at Asean meetings or other international meetings, he said.

Mr Abhisit then insisted that the government will not trade support for the listing of Preah Vihear temple as a world heritage site for any other benefit."

"What we are doing is not for the benefit of others, but for our country," he said. "This government does not have anything to trade for that."

Yeah what is the hostile about this case? Is Thailand or HUN SEN have something secret to hide>???

The fact is Thais always talk polite but they are not trustworthy. Khmers tend to be less polite in talking, but are much more honest than the Thais and Yuons.

The siemes lived near khmer border they are better than khmer opposition, because they don't want have the yellow shirt come to khmer border, but khmer opposition never said nothing to them.

Hey dude 8:59 PM,

Politic in Thailand is different in Cambodia. In Thai it is more personal secure than Cambodia. In Thailand the opposition can stage a demonstration, rally or assembly of protest whenever the leader is behaving strange. When its leader can't work for its national interest they can force him to resign. But in Cambodia this atmosphere can't happen.

You have to understand politic in Cambodia cause right now it is no freedom to express over any concerns. You can be jailed or suit for anything.

Ahbullshit said "Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva (pictured) Tuesday hit out at his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Sen, for saying Thai trespassers would be shot if they entered into an area along the common border disputed by the two countries.

"Whenever he gives interviews to the foreign media he always has this attitude where he wants to make headlines," Abhisit told reporters Tuesday, one day after Hun Sen made the challenging statement."

Hun Sen stop barking!! SIAM can smell your crap from Bangkok..

Don't agree with your comment. The Cambodian Constitution are very clear "Protect the Khmer Descent."
Bad things happened were the people, who did not understand very well about the law, used their own power.
Thailand is not much different as Cambodia. Until today the Khmer Thai born not able to protest for their own right and interest. They only able used the Khmer Songs as a political protest.
