Thailand’s King Bhumibhol Adulyadej, the world’s longest reigning monarch and the object of intense devotion among many Thais, has spent his night in hospital, underlining the atmosphere of crisis and division in the country.
His doctors said that the 81-year old king’s his condition had improved since Saturday when he was put on antibiotics and an intravenous drip after suffering fever, tiredness and loss of appetite. “In the past 24 hours his Majesty has less fever but he still has a loss of appetite,” the royal household bureau said in a statement read out on national television. “The medical team is still giving him antibiotics and nutrients.”
But the mere fact of the king’s indisposition, after some of the most tumultuous and chaotic months in modern Thai history, is a reminder of the degree to which the country’s stability depends on his continuing survival – and of the uncertainty that is likely to follow his death.
King Bhumibol’s illness came at the end of a tense day in Thailand, and after three years of bitter division, conflict and political instability. On Saturday, tens of thousands of supporters of the deposed former prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, marched through Bangkok to mark the third anniversary of the military coup which propelled him from power.
“Three years after the coup, our country has slid backwards,” Mr Thaksin told supporters of the so-called “Red Shirt” movement, the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), via a videolink from his exile in an unidentified foreign country. “There is no justice in society. The longer this government stays, the bigger the disaster is for the country. Give me just six months as prime minister, and I will bring this country back to normal.”
Meanwhile, members of the People’s Alliance for Democracy, who oppose Mr Thaksin, mounted a violent display of nationalist fervour at a Buddhist temple on a disputed area of border with neighbouring Cambodia. Dozens of people were injured, after the “Yellow Shirts” fought with Thai police and local villagers.
Mr Abhisit visited Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital to offered wishes for the king’s recovery over the weekend, and assured Thais over the weekend that the treatment was routine. “His Majesty's condition is not a problem,” he said. There is no obvious reason to doubt this, but the timing of the King’s illness is bound to provoke anxiety among Thais, for whom he is the object of cult-like veneration.
In the past few years millions of Thais have taken to dressing in yellow, the royal colour, in honour of the King. Thai towns and cities display posters of Bhumibhol and his queen, Sirikit, every few hundred yards. Along with his family, he is protected by a harsh lese majeste law which punishes any perceived “insult” to the monarchy – a female opposition activist was sentenced last month to 18 years in prison for this crime.
Bhumibhol is also respected for his occasional, but influential, interventions in Thai politics when he has forced compromise between squabbling politicians and appealed for commonsense and national unity.
Unfortunately, this intense affection has not been inherited by his son, the Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. Much of the whispering about the three times married Crown Prince is unsubstantiated gossip, although in the past two years scandalous film footage has been distributed on the Internet and on clandestine CDs, showing him and his princess, Princess Srirasmi.
An Australian writer, Harry Nicolaides, spent five months in prison for a novel which briefly referred to the romantic entanglements and intrigues” of the Crown Prince, before eventually receiving a royal pardon. A biography of Bhumibol by the American writer, Paul Handley, which also touches on the taboo subject is denied distribution in Thailand.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CHAKRI DYNASTY - DYNASTY OF KHMER BLOODLINE IN THAILAND (1782-PRESENT)
Rama I (20 March 1736 – 7 September 1809) who founded Chakri dynasty was of Khmer descent from Takeo provice later migrated to Banteay Meas (currently Hatien, South Vietnam). He killed King Taksin of Thonburi who was the first Thai king of Chinese descent. This explains why he adopted the Khmer royal court customs and everything related to Khmer culture. During the reign of King Rama VI (King Vajiravudh) (1 January 1881 – 25 November 1925). His fourth consort Suvadhana (15 April - 10 October 1985)was of Khmer descent. She was the daughter of Phraya Abhaiyabhupesa (a Khmer governor of Battambang under Siamese rule). Suvadhana bore the only child of Rama VI (Princess Bejaratana)(25 November 1925 - present). Rama VI saw his child's face only one day before he passed away. In his will, it stated that if Suvadhana were to have a son, he will be crowned King, if otherwise his brother King Rama VII(King Prajadhipok)would be King. Thailand would have had a Khmer descent again on its throne! Interestingly, Pra Nang Chao Suvadhana was, through her maternal grandmother, Thao Sri Sundornnath (formerly Kaew Abhayavongsa), the great niece of Khun Chom Iem Busba, wife of HM King Norodom I of Cambodia and great-grandmother of King Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia. Princess Bejaratana and King Norodom Sihanouk are thus third cousins through their descents from Thao Sri Sundornnath and her sister Khun Chom Iem Busba.

Suvadhana was a half sister of Khuang Abhaiwongse (1902-1968) who served 4 terms as Priminster of Thailand. Suvadhana and Khuang Abhaiwongse's father was Phraya Abhaiyabhubesa (Chum Aphaiwong) (1861 to 1922), a Khmer governor in Battambang under Siamese rule. When the Siamese retreated in 1945, Chum Aphaiwong family settled in Prachinburi next to Battambang province, now part of it became Banteay Meanchey province. Chum Aphaiwong fathered 169 sons and daughters during his lifetime.

Thai Chine Mon Khmer Melayu Lao and many hill tribe etc. who live in Thailand , They can enjoy their life and culture by themselves. Some of them success for their life. For me I'm Thai. I can love Cambodian or another people who live in the same world, if they are good background. For our King, I still support and love him. For me now, Angkor or Ayuthaya period are finished for longtime, King is not Tevada, but he should be the leader of state's soul and he should stay under the same law with his nations. If you are Thai you wouldn't spelled the word "Pracheachon" like that. That is Khmer's word. If you would make it for Thai. It should be spelled like this "Prachachon".

In Saren Srisaket and Buriram a lots of Khmer people. I also have cousin in there. They can learn Khmer and enjoy life with Khmer culture if they want. Last week I join the state ceremony of Saen Dol Ta in Khu Khan. Are my Khmer friend in this board know? The practice to learn Preah Phuttasatsana in Thailand long time before all monk need to study Khmer alphabet learn to read and write in temple.(all part of Thailand mainly in central part) Because we writting Preah Phuttasatsana in Khmer. In Thai we call "Peasa Khom of Peasa Pali". If you can filtrate big bias for Siem and Khmer relationship when we look at the mirror we can see together.
From my experiences in the old times in Khmers hearts, Khmers tend to trust and like Thai than YOUN because my opinion: Same Culture, same religious..., after the Killing Field these stereotype dropped to Thai similar to YOUN.

a. Before 1970 all of us loved him, he allowed Viet army sited in Cambodia, after us air raid he requested Viet Army go back home but they did't hear Sihanouk. Then he flew to France because of illness trick,he ordered MR Lon Nol to pust Vietnam back from Cambodia, after MR Lon Nol did and sent his brother (Lon Non) to please him to return home for leading the country. Sihanouk turned to China and then to Russia (Russia said to him he must return home, if not Cambodia will would be war). Later he did't return back and opposed Lon Nol by Beijing Radio (every evening at 7:00 PM).
b. 1970- 1975 he stood always behind Khmer Rouge, but in the Pol Pot Regime he was in prison, why? because Pol Pot though he is Reachea Niyum.

Strange that Cambodian King or Thai's King never talk about blood related. Althought people know and talk about it. I suppose every one wants to be King and it must more than one country for them or it has to be two ( Cambodia and Thailand ) and it didn't matter, if it means not to be family. In this case family means nothing. People say that blood is thicker than water, but in this case water in the palace on both sides is thicker than blood.
If Queen Suvadhana or Pra Nang Tiv had son, Bhumibol may never be King and a son of Suvadhana would have claimed everything in Cambodia for Thailand, because by all means, he is half Khmer and can share everything in Cambodia. Only this time he would claim them for Thailand. God know, he didn't want it to happen to Cambodia. God let Suvadhana having a daughter who is single all her life. When she is gone, it will be done. Bhumibal is too far out. Therefore will be more difficult for him to claim Cambodia for Siem or Thailand.
One can only think that over King Sihanouk's dead body that it will happen or Thailand King will take over Cambodia.

King Sihanouk is not Communist, his strategies were to survive only, because he knew Communists will rise. Bhumibol shot his own brother King Mahidol, a pro-Communist, because Bhumibol was and always American born pro-US. Now Bhumibol is about to die, Communist is back (Taksin and Dr. Giles Ungpakorn or red shirts). Now you see Sihanouk's strategies are better than Bhumibol. After Bhumibol gone, his people never had experiences with Communist will face sufferings than Cambodians.

You are right that Thais would do everything to take all Khmer belongings including Khmer culture.
Beacuse in Thailand there're more Khmers in a former Khmer empire, and it was security reasons for Thais to keep the culture for those Khmers; if not Thais may had faced civil war. We know Khmers hate to change.
Bhumibol didn't take the oath to marry his wife Sirikith, it was a conspiracy created by Sirikith's Father. Her father was one of the most powerful man in Thailand. Bhumibol loved Sirikith's young sister, but Thai culture, an old daughter must be married before the young sister. King Bhumibol was tricked to marry Sirikith, that's why when Sirikith's Father mysteriously died, Bhumibol didn't attend the funeral. Queen Sirikith's mother believed that Bhumibol killed her husband, and they both hated each others. It was very insulting for a son in law refused to attend his father in law funeral.
If you believe that King Sihanouk's wife is not Khmer, you are falling to these old propagandas. In Thailand, Sirikith hates to see the pictures of then Princess Monique now Queen Mother, then rumour spread fast that she was Youn. Then jealous Sirikith flew to London had her face, nose, boobs done (plastic surgery). In Vietnam, this propaganda was to divide Khmers unrest; and in Cambodia mostly from the Royal family members. Then the jealousy went further, Princess Srey Pov flew to Paris to sex with African men. Now after many years passed those jealous women some died and some are still around like Sirikith. She is greedy old, fat, and ugly whereas Khmer Queen is old, fat but still beautiful.
FYI: in Thailand, Bhumibol and his wife Sirikith had one thing to mock Khmers was using those propagandas: teen King (Sihanouk) had a baby at 18, and had foreign wife. Bhumibol didn't tell people he slept with many women including his wife's young sister (former lover) and he has many illigitimate children from those women. King Sihanouk tries very very hard thought and marries Queen Monique isn't bad at all. In fact it puts tiny country like our on the world map in 60's. Ask any country around the world, especially European. Do they know Cambodia or Sihanouk? You bet ya! With Princess Monique and now Queen Monineath made King standing 10 fts tall and beyond. May be not so much anymore, because they are old but everyone should know well that Cambodian's current King is almost half Italian. Like American has Barrak Obama as President, Cambodian have European man as their King. How do you like that world? Haven't Cambodia gone into the future fast enough?
In just a few years ago, we thought for sure that someone like Ms. Angelina Jolie would come very close to be his Queen and again like his father King Sihanouk was showing off Princess Monique and attracting world wide attention in the 60's, Sihamoni will draw millions of tourists and prosperity to Cambodia today, but it did not happen. It was quit dissapointing, but we understood that thing didn't always click the right way. We can all blaim it on Brad Pitt, but decide instead blaiming mainly on Communist North Korea, China and Vietnam. It was just too complicated for a wonderful American woman like Ms. Jolie to get involved. It's better she enjoys her ordinary life with American man and children. Life is too short.

If we think about history, we should forgot the present biass to think about that. Thai and Khmer share same history for Khmer empire language, culture are glowed all both side of the present time. I'm interesting everything when I have trip in Cambodia. Many food and culture are look similar with same tradition in my homeland in central part of Thailand. In Thailand we are multiculture country we have different traditional way and have many languages. Thais people learn a lots of political pratices from our neigbor country. The history of Indochina after France colonial period is important for us to understanding. Thai, Lao, Khmer and Yuan reconstruction and supporting a lots to pro-pure nationalism. Many book and speech of political man and journalism at that time done about that and hidden many missing agenda of our government. That more easily for them to select niegbor country to be vectims for them. I remember some case in Cambodia, in the time of Preah Vihear crisis more than 40 year agos. The problem between Thailand and Cambodian government for clame country area. Some hidden agenda support Heros. What happen with Siem people who live in Khet Koh Kong and Battambang. Many of common people were killed for "Baung Saung Moha Tevada Heros" to got smile. Kill for smile. Same that case still having in Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
We are victims of many reconstruct propraganda history after colonial period. When we hate and fighting together our government to happy and smile to take the luxory life and had been seen our fighting life show.

I'm confused. Suvadhana in the history book of Thailand was Chum Aphaivong's grand daughter and Kuang Aphaivong was his son by Thai's wife. Can you please explain a little bit more about this relation? Also according to Battambang Samai Lok Machas by a Professor who lived in Battambang before the fall of April 1975 stated that Suvadhana was one of Chum Aphaiwong son's daughter. Chum Aphaivong's son ( forgot his name )had Nang Tiv in Khmer or Queen consort Suvadhana of Thailand by accident and out of wedlock. The man had paranoid decease after hearing his daughter who he had abandoned for years got picked up by Thailand Rama VI. He got so scared that even the sound of leaves moving in the tree would make him scare to death. I think there may be some misunderstanding somewhere, but again Chum Aphaivong had many wives. By the way Nang Tiv met King Vijiravudh thru her grand mother. The old lady was Thai's Rama VI's flowers decoration. This old lady could very well be Chum Aphaiwong's one of his many wives. May be this is where the story got tangled up?
