Thailand's PM criticises Cambodia's shooting order

ABC Radio Australia

Thailand's Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has criticised his Cambodian counterpart for saying Thai trespassers will be shot if they go near a disputed temple on the border.

Earlier Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen said he had ordered his troops to shoot anyone from neighbouring Thailand who crosses onto land around the 11th century Preah Vihear temple.

"If they enter again, they will be shot," Hun Sen told officials.

"Troops, police and all armed forces must adhere to the order ... for invaders, shields are not used but bullets are used," the PM said in the speech at the opening ceremony for Cambodia's new Ministry of Tourism building.

Hun Sen's comments came a little over a week after Thai protesters rallied near the ancient temple, the site of clashes that have killed seven soldiers since tensions flared last year.

Mr Abhisit says Hun Sen wants to retaliate for the Thai protests on September the 19th.

He says Thailand still wants to find a peaceful solution to the dispute over the temple through a joint border commission set up by the two countries.

Claims attacked

Hun Sen has also lambasted Thailand's claim to the disputed land around the temple, inviting it to raise the issue at an Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting next month.

Cambodia and Thailand have been arguing over the land around the temple for decades, but tensions spilled over into violence last July when the temple was granted United Nations World Heritage status.

You and your gangs always say one thing and do the opposite. Look at your country, who is the boss – the yellow shirt, the military, the parliament, the prime minister, or the King? How can Cambodia negotiate with a country in a politically disfunctional like yours?

I'm Thai if Abhisit Vejjajiva failed what he promised to Thai people that he will do whatever to reclaim the Khao Prah Vihan temple people will demand his resignation. And now he had realized that Cambodia is legitimate owner he is looking like a fool that he was convincing Thai people elected him. He had thought he can restore what the previous government duty to reclaim. Like we knew it too that even the pass PM said the temple and the 4.6km2 is belong to Cambodia.

Now he is putting his political career at odd.

this was beside the point and it was the right thing to do for cambodia. after all, siem thieves stole khmer statues and only returned to us with international depressure, etc... and about preah vihear and surround lands, siem people should start educating their unruly pad thugs, etc to respect the 1907 international treaty and icj verdict of 1962, etc, and stop using unilateral map of yours as cambodia will never accept that, ok! what part of the world "unilateral map" don't you people understand? we cannot honor siem unilateral map. believe it or not, by siem stupidly using their unilateral map to steal khmer lands, that is the real problem here! and stop using cambodia's preah vihear temple and surrounding lands as your lame excuse, ok! it's not going to work with cambodia, really! be educated, stupid siem thieves!

hey, in case siem did know, modern cambodia have laws, we don't give favor to siem for returning khmer statues that their siem thieves stole from cambodia. that was the right things to do, really; don't ask cambodia leader for any favor because khmer people say no favor, ok! this is not the dark ages, you know. people can go to jail for treason and being a traitor, really! and it's not the human rights abuse or whatever, it purely within the law of cambodia to do the right thing for cambodia. yes, modern cambodia have and use the rule of law, really. it's hard to believe, but it is true, really, in cambodia. get over it!

Every neighbour needs to respect each other’s boundary in order to keep its own citizen in place or otherwise if war occurs again, it will go into another chaos. We Asian nations need to find solutions for peace in order to protect our future generation from harm and finding ways to protect all individuals as well like; all for one and one for all and that everyone is equally important regardless who they are or where they come from. Asian nation needs to create an international security net to protect everyone who may travel to and from each other’s country. We Asian nation must reach a common ground, goal and common interest for the best of our society e.g. if one nation needs help the rest must come together as one. We also need to use the system like European nations, creating a one currency of "Euro" or maybe we can call our currency as "Asiano or "Asian-mono". Just remember, the power of love, compassion, share, and respect can be conquered. So, I have one request for Thai, back off and respect Khmer’s land, if not, Viet and Chinese will be behind us and I don't want any more bloodshed for any Asian nation, as we already have enough problems as it is. Finally, if anyone is looking for war, may it comes upon themselves.
