Typhoon Ketsana Strengthens, Approaches Vietnam Coast

By Aaron Sheldrick and Nguyen Kieu Giang

Sept. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Typhoon Ketsana, which left more than 240 people dead in the Philippines, strengthened overnight into a Category 2 storm as it approached the central coast of Vietnam, where the government ordered evacuations.

The eye of Ketsana was about 86 kilometers (54 miles) east- northeast of the city of Quang Ngai at 7 a.m. Vietnam time today, according to the U.S. Navy Joint Typhoon Warning center. The storm’s maximum sustained winds increased to 167 kilometers per hour from 148 kph yesterday as it moved southwest at 15 kph.

Ketsana’s eye, where winds are gusting to 204 kph, is forecast to cross the coast near Quang Ngai after 1 p.m. local time today. Earlier it was forecast to cross the coast near Hue to the northwest.

The Vietnam government’s flood prevention committee earlier ordered evacuations from areas vulnerable to flash floods and landslides and told people to take prevention measures in the central provinces around the city of Hue. Residents were advised to stockpile food, water and medicines.

Central Vietnam was hit by rains last week that left 23 people dead or missing, according to a statement on the government’s Web site. More than 9,600 houses were damaged.

Ketsana crossed Luzon in the Philippines as a tropical storm three days ago, causing floods in the capital, Manila, and surrounding areas that forced hundreds of thousands to evacuate their homes.

The typhoon is a Category 2 storm, the second-weakest on the five-step Saffir Simpson scale. Such storms are capable of “widespread damage,” according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center’s Web site.

Ketsana is the name of a tree in Laos, according to the Hong Kong Observatory, which list names in use for Pacific storms on its Web site.

Good people don't wish anything bad happening even to their worst enemies. So, people who have such wish just be careful it will be back fire on themselves, it is called "Karma" or "what goes around will come around", so, try to speak no evil and act no evil regardless of what condition you are in. The power of love can over take the power of hatred in the end. Hate can lead into a result of disaster where as love can into a more productive approach to life. So, if you want to know more, please try to read more about the wisdom of life...either form buddhism or the bible if you are a christain...in peace guys
