Vietnam To Plant 100,000 Hectares of Rubber
By Pich Samnang, VOA Khmer
Original report from Phnom Penh
22 September 2009
The governments of Cambodian and Vietnam signed an agreement Tuesday allowing the development of 100,000 hectares of rubber plantations in five provinces, which will add to the 400 Vietnamese companies already operating here.
The new concessions would come into effect by 2015, according to the agreement, signed Tuesday between Agriculture Minister Chan Sarun and his counterpart, Cao Duc Phat.
“This [agreement] will create more jobs for local people and thus alleviate poverty,” Chan Sarun told reporters following a signing ceremony in Phnom Penh. “Our [Cambodian] people in remote areas, who used to depend on forests, will become rubber processors.”
Cao said the agreement would serve as a basis for other rubber companies to follow in the future. Vietnamese companies planted 10,000 hectares in Cambodia this year and are preparing to plant another 20,000 in 2010; 30,000 the year after; and 40,000 the year after that.
Seven Vietnamese companies are operating in five Cambodian provinces: Ratanakkiri, Mondolkiri, Kratie, Kampong Thom and Preah Vihear.
“We will have leased all 100,000 hectares of land to Vietnamese companies by 2012, three years before our plan,” Chan Sarun said, explaining that Vietnam plans to send more rubber companies to Cambodia.
The two ministers also said a rubber processing factory would be set up in Cambodia by 2012. Rubber and timber are Cambodia’s biggest exports to Vietnam, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Three/fourth of Hun Sen's plan has been accomplished. And here is what Hun Sen needs to fulfil the rest: To make Cambodia become a military-ruled country, Hun Sen will promote Hun Maneth to be the military commander-in-chief. If in the near future the opposition party completely lose its voice, and if Hun Maneth fully succeeds as commander-in-chief with the help of Yuons, then the Hun Sen's offsprings will be solely the owner of Cambodia.
To stop Hun Sen from fulfilling his plan, the freedom-loving Khmers, excluding Hun Sen's some dandruffed dogs, must be resolute in their endeavour to pursue social justice, democracy, and freedom for their beloved defenseless compatriots.
I think the Viet is aiming to keep this land in the future, if our government not careful about the deal.
the viets are creatures of habit; they never really left Cambodia in 1989. some of them are now back in cambodia living illegally.these illegal viets need to be deported to their country.
5:32 AM Outstanding!
Believe it or not! Our country are being sold in half already it's about 45% from Koh Kong to Mondulkuri to foreigners we also know who to blame. Ah Yuon using our territories for rubber planation plus other sources.
They everywhere in srok Khmer plus majority of them lived Tonle Sap they got produces, we(Khmer) dry land got bugs every now and then.
Hun sen is worst than pol pot, he is living everyday with his head in the sand when it come to dealing with
his youn-master. Worst he is allowing his people and countrie to take the suffering, torture, and insult from vietnam.
He might one day get kills by his own youn-master. Play with the sword, get cut by the sword.
viet can come and do as they please in cambodia. They said that they fought for and won it in 1979 so it belongs to them.
It's obvious that all Yuons living in Cambodia rithg now have more rights and privileges to do whatever as they wanted to than our Khmer citizens. This is the evidence proving that Hun Sen chooses to obsequiously serve his Yuon boss other than to serve Khmer people whose votes were stolen by his well-orchestrated agents.
Like Viets said: "Thai are stupid they want Khmer stones, whereas we, Viets are smart we want Khmer land". While we mobilized Khmer troop to protect our border from the Thai, The Viets are everywhere inside Cambodia. Still some Khmers don't even realize that Viets are in control of our Khmer land. Too sad.
soon khmer will kill them all, and send all yuon and the CPP hunyuon-slave by flooting them in the mekong river...I said soon, very soon, when the US took control of the khmer military. Hunmonkeydogsen will cry like WEE, WEE!
The bodies stayed, the uniforms left.

i think cambodia needs to move beyond the old fashion type of thinking. think about it, seriously, in this 21st century, with its numerous rules, regulations, laws, etc, it is stupid and idiocracy for youn and other to think the unthinkable like steal lands and territories from a sovereigned nation like cambodia. maybe it was true once upon a time during the dark ages or stone ages, however, nowadays; it is really questionable. so, extremists on both sides might think so, however, in reality, we know it is so stupid of any nation to try to steal lands from another, especially in this day and age! wake up, people, this is not the dark ages, really! everyone must abide by cambodian laws, etc... god bless cambodia.
..."soverigned nation like cambodia."..."cambodia laws" my butts! Ane evry time you finish your silly comment, you write ..."god bless cambodia" Why your god never leads you towards decency? Youns are not stupid; you are the one who is stupid. Hun Sen and Yuons signed a mutual agreement before they invaded Cambodia and installed Hun Sen in power. Stupid as you are you will never the Yuons' hidden motive and Hun Sen's.
correction: you will never see
Ah kwack shook hands with invader and murderer, burned khmer alive, DAM TEA ONG! used khmer head for the the stove...www.khmer-heroes.blogspot.com/
Really, 8:17am? You think thais are stupid to want to claim preah vihear as theirs? It is still possible in modern time to steal your neighbours' lands. Had Cambodia not deployed troops to confront the thais at preah vihear, thais would still be staying in the temple. So, do not be so sure that your neighbors are stupid. This is a real problem for cambodia to fight two enemies: viet and thai .
Yep! Hun Sen's head is next for YOUN gas stove...
8:44 AM,
For Cambodian government under Hun Sen, there is only one enemie to fight: Thai. Without the Viets Hun Sen would not be a Prime Minister of Cambodia and since he owed the Viets a big favor, he just gave our land away to Viets in exchange for the position of the Prime Minister of Cambodia.
This is the final straw, the last nail in the national coffin of what we all know and love: our ancient motherland.
In the seventies a group of idealistic French educated Cambodians, inflamed with revolutionary fire of their time, spurred on by a collective sense of deeply wounded national pride and blinded by the impetuosity of youth took to the forest and the dormant peasantry in their quest to answer the calls of their country’s destiny. Nationalism was the potent force driving these young men and women into the dark alleys of history and surely towards the Promised Land despite the rational illusion that coated that force as well as acting as a practical pocket guide on how to survive their historic mission. And the illusion in question is, of course, Communism. History itself, though, was by far the greatest of men’s illusions and in Cambodia’s context at least was explosively fused with the atom of inherited national humiliation. The only thing worth noting is that Cambodian nationalism is thoroughly self-destructive, and whether this is influenced in part by scheming outsiders does not in itself offer sufficient explanation for the manner in which successive Cambodian regimes defy all logic and reason in their determination to speed up their nation’s oblivion.
Thus, the Paris group succeeded in clearing the way for foreign power to come in and occupy unopposed by purging not just educated and administrative elements of the old regimes, including military elements, but it managed also to split itself apart with permanent and irretrievable harmful consequence in what remained of indigenous coherence in terms of unity and trust by pitting the peasantry against the townsfolk, dark-skinned against light-skinned, neighbours against neighbours, children against adults, and finally by pitting the Party against itself through endless confessions and zonal purges.
As if not to be outmatched, the Hanoi group have been taking their turn to complete the strangulation process in presenting to external power on a silver platter whatever remains of the nation’s exploitable assets. By replacing vast areas of natural forests with their complex eco-system with sparsely planted rubber plants which could never compensate environmentally the inevitable loss of that system and balance; by depriving large number of people of their traditional food source and turning them into wage labourers thereby removing their economic independence; by making it possible for foreign workers and their families to entrench themselves in precisely these plantations which in the past provided rich bases for armed recruitment and strategic havens, the Hanoi group is insuring that Cambodia will be helplessly dependent on Vietnam economically and politically for the next hundred years or more.
