Cambodia bans mass demonstrations

Cambodia's parliament has approved a new law banning demonstrations of more than 200 people.

Members of the ruling Cambodian People's Party say the law will ensure security and help maintain public order.

The main opposition Sam Rainsy Party says it is nothing more than a ban on anti-government protests.

The law also requires groups to seek permission five days in advance of planned demonstrations.

It follows recent tightening of Cambodia's defamation laws after a series of court cases brought against opponents of Prime Minister Hun Sen and associates.

Don't blame CPP. Sam Rainsy voted for that bill.

Sam Rainsy - it's time for you to leave and let more capable people run the party to challenge CPP.

It is outrageous. Again, it just shows how unwise or inept Sam Rainsy leadership is. As an opposition party leader, he could have told his party to boycott the bill and walk out.
But as usual, Sam Rainsy is coward and so afraid to challenge CPP. Hun Sen knows Sam Rainsy’s weakness very well and he is using Sam Rainsy to legitimize his authority.

Sam Rainsy party does not have enough voice to pass the bill. It is the CPP gameplan intended to silence the oppostion and people from criticizing this corrupted government. If this law really takes effect, then absolutism also takes its roots, too.
Let's just wait and see how much more barbarous and evil the Hun Sen government can go.
