Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) has started a new competition -the Cambodian International Football Tournament BIDC Cup.

The tournament has been launched to mark the 56th anniversary of Cambodian independence.

The first edition will see the national Under-23 teams from Cambodia and Laos do battle with Vietnamese clubs Hoang Ann Gia Lai and Vissai Ninh Binh.

The matches will take place in Phnom Penh from November 8-14.

“Each team will meet each other once, with the top two (from points and goals scored) playing in the final for the trophy, while the other two play for third place," said Cambodia Football Federation president Sao Sokha according to the Phnom Penh Post.

"Local television network TV5 will broadcast the games live, with the opening and closing ceremonies also screened in Vietnam,”

“The champions will receive gold medals and $20,000, with the runners-up pocketing $10,000, and third-place team $5,000.

"The player of the tournament, the top scorer and the best goalkeeper will each receive $1,000.”

The Cambodian U23 team have much to do after a recent 6-0 thrashing suffered at the hands of Singapore recently.

The team will play five warm-up matches prior to the start of the tournament.
