Cambodia will withdraw a proposal to have a border dispute with Thailand put on the Asean agenda at a summit this month, a government spokesman said Thursday.
Bangkok has clarified remarks reported in the media claiming the Thai government would like to see a neutral arbitrator in the longstanding border dispute near Preah Vihear temple, said Koy Koung, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya sent a letter to his Cambodian counterpart to correct misrepresentations of statements in the media.
“I was essentially informing the press about progress made in developing the dispute settlement mechanism under the Asian chatter undertaken by the high level expert,” Kasit said in the letter.
His reported remarks had in fact referred to agreements reached between the prime ministers of both countries, that the issue of the land near Preah Vihear temple be addressed bilaterally, Kasit wrote.
Having received the letter, Cambodia would not raise the issue at the Asean summit in Thailand that begins Oct. 23, Koy Kuong said.

the cambodian government always follow and appease what the Thais want to do.....they should pick one strategy if they are working for cambodia at all, either raise the issue internationally or go to war with ah Thai. they'll wake up sooner or later and realize it's not working with siem's preference for bilateral talk or whatever. we'll have to wait and see.
All of these things just the games they both playing to fool all of us and screwed all of us left and right, as you all may knew already, everytime they meet and playing golf together at Siem reap country club, i think comments 7:36am is right! It's all about money, Thai got Koh Kong island under their control...
What did ASEAN afraid of ? I am tired of hearing the word 'bilateral talk'.It show no progress at all. Thai never kept their promise,why waste time with all these nonsense bilateral talk with the Thai. Just go to the UN and get it over with. Thai nation is has a bad image already. Enough is enough do not play game with the confuse nation.
