TOKYO, Japan — The Japanese government assured that it will continue to strengthen its bilateral relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which is preparing to build one ASEAN Community by 2015.

In a meeting with ASEAN reporters here, Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Press Secretary and director-general for public relations Kazuo Kodama expressed optimism on its stronger bilateral ties with the ASEAN.

Japan is one of the ASEAN+3 dialogue partners. The other two are China and South Korea. “My government, Japan, is willing to have ASEAN as an entity to realize the integration in 2015,” Kodama said.

“Japan is so much committed to work together with ASEAN, China and Korea,” he said, adding that newly elected Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama “looks very much forward” to visiting Asian countries. He is slated to visit Thailand next week.

“In the area of cooperation, I’m very happy that [ASEAN] is really making progress. I’m very happy declaring that Japan is being able to welcome all those [bilateral] relations, that is why our leaders are able to meet together independently,” he added, citing its bilateral relations even with other ASEAN dialogue partners China and South Korea.

Citing the Philippines and Indonesia, which have both been hit by natural disasters recently, Kodama meanwhile said the Japanese government is helping strengthen regional cooperation in the area of disaster management.

Japan will use Thailand once again to spring board their diplomacy into South East Asia!

During WWII Japan treats Cambodia as a useless country and they were will to give the Siem and the Viet leaders anything they want!

The nature of the Japanese people is to take side with the winner.

Yes...beware the Jap is back!
