Phnom Penh - Police in the southern Cambodian province of Kampot plan to arrest "more than 10" Chinese dam workers accused of attacking two traffic policemen who had to be hospitalized, local media reported Wednesday. The incident took place Sunday after the traffic police pulled over a truck that was carrying the workers. Kampot's police chief, Phlang Phearin, said the Chinese workers then phoned their colleagues who turned up and attacked the police.

Both policemen ended up in hospital, one of them suffering head injuries, Phlang Phearin told the Phnom Penh Post newspaper.

"We have identified the suspects and will arrest them soon after we have the documents," he said.

Phlang Phearin told the newspaper that a representative of the company the suspects work for, Sinohydro, had tried to negotiate with the police but would not make any further comment.

Sinohydro is building a hydropower plant in Kampot.

Shu Jiang, the deputy managing director of Sinohydro, confirmed that his workers had been involved in the incident.

"My workers attacked the policemen, but there was some reason, I think," he told the newspaper.

We heard all kinds of news: The Khmers, the siams, the yuons, the chins attacking Khmers in Srok Khmer. And the Hun Sen government does not dare to come to the rescue of its own people.

I think those police have been acting inappropriate that's they got their ass kicked. I bet they tried to harass or intimidate those chinese so they will bribe them but they surprised them instead. Just think about it . Most of Hun Sen police have been full of corruption and I won't be surprised if this case turn out to be one of them. Who in the world want to attack the police if there is no reason ?

1:35 PM, please do not assume those policemen guilty if you don't know all the facts. Whatever the reason people don't attack the police in most civilized countries, in this case the Chinese are not acting civilized in my view. Most foreigners including the Chinese look down on poor Cambodians. That's a fact.

Gov't needs to find out the truth to what had happened. Everything has the beginning and an end to up. Who know it could be another form of ethnic cleansing. One friend of mine said during Pol Pot where a group of Chinese people came to inspect about the land and give ideas to Pol Pot leaders about how to run the country, basically were to kill as many Khmer as possible so that they can take possession of the land. Pol Pot at the time had to do as told by this group of Chinese or else Pol Pot regimes itself would be taken down but the Chinese were too smart, they used tactic and they wanted Khmer to kill all Khmer instead to cover up their track. I have one question to ask Khmer people, where do guns, mines and other war equipments came from? Their items usually have serial number of where they were made? The evidences are right there! From China off cause! Our gov’t must be careful because we cannot trust anyone especially the outsiders.

But Cambodia is not a civilized nation, as opposed to other countries. Everywhere you look, there's a chaos and civil unrest. These drink, eat, shit, and fuck any time they please. No one dare to tell these people, because they have plenty of money to shut the officials' mouth.

This only happens in Cambodia; in other countries, attempt at your own risk, and I can certainly guarantee that the peril will be on your side.

I am 1:35 PM and I heard the similar story before . two rangers went to stop viet fishermen from fishing but they didn't do it during the day time .. they did it at night because they thought they could intimidate those viet guys who were fishing illegally and those viet might bribe them something but they were wrong , those viet beat them to death on their boat . I won't be surprised if this case turn out to be the same.

Only robbery will want to do something like that to the police , other than that I don't see why people want to do that to the police ...unless there is a big reason .

in the civilized Countries, police don't do things like police in Cambodia do , that's why you don't usually hear or see things like that happen .

2:04PM,
I agreed with 1:35. Consider corruption by officials at every level in Cambodia, those two policemen could enrage the Chinese by making them(the Chinese) bribe the policemen and the Chinese refused. Subsequently, tension ensued and the Chinese lost control and took action. As for me, I almost lost control one time at the Pochentong Airport in Phnom Penh. I have to bribe five different officials just to get out of the airport: the immigration, the Agriculture department, the bag checkers, the people to show me the way out of the airport, and the soldiers who manned the airport. I was so pissed of at that time and I swore that I never come to Cambodia through Pochentong Airport anymore.

Some officials said, if they don't corrupt or being crooked, they can't afford the monthly salary, is not enough, that's why they ask or even threaten all khmer merchants to pay them, just like Mafia...

Those policemen deserved it! They are so corrupted. From my experience, almost all of them included my own uncle are devil. He is an ask licker!. They use their power to scare the people, and they wish any accidents, or problems to occur so they can make money from that & they are heartless people. if you have money you are safe and doesn't matter if you are the bad one or not. At the end, the richer, more power, the winner!

A lot of robbery "money exchange, gold seller" that happend everytime, i think crooked police given the robber a green light, because phnom penh city is small, and there's too many police officials working on the street nowaday, how can they miss that..?
