BANGKOK, Oct 27 (TNA) - Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said on Tuesday that he had clearly explained the correct information regarding the case of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, ousted in a September 2006 coup, to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Mr Suthep said he had met and discussed the matter with Mr Hun Sen, as assigned by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, and the Cambodian premier now has a better understanding about Mr Thaksin’s case.
Ousted in a bloodless coup three years ago, Mr Thaksin was sentenced to a two-year prison term for abusing his power when he was prime minister to help his ex-wife purchase prime land in Bangkok’s Ratchadapisek Road. He now lives mainly in the United Arab Emirates. His Thai passport was cancelled but he obtained passports given by some foreign countries.
Mr Suthep said he told the Cambodian premier that it was too late for Mr Thaksin to complain that he has been treated unfairly as the coup was over long before he and his supporters accepted the post-coup Constitution and fielded candidates to run in the (2007) general election which led to the pro-Thaksin party's victory, but then two prime ministers were forced to leave office after being found guilty of violating the constitution.
"Mr Hun Sen understands what I said," said Mr Suthep “However I didn't mention the extradition and his home offer to Mr Thaksin, I went there only to give him better and correct understanding on the situation in Thailand."
The deputy premier said he had told the Cambodian leader that the Thai people want to live in peace with their neighbours, respecting the sovereignty of each other and not meddling in its neighbour's internal affairs and solve any dispute through peaceful means.
Mr Hun Sen also pledged that the recent verbal spat would not lead to border tension or military skirmishes, according to the Thai deputy prime minister.
Meanwhile, the People's Assembly of Thailand led by political activists Chaiwat Sinsuwong and retired Admiral Bannawit Kengrian gathered in front of the Cambodian Embassy to Thailand in Bangkok, reading a statement condemning what they branded as "improper behaviour" of both the Cambodian leader and ex-Thai premier Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyuth, which they accused them of damaging relationships between the two neighbouring countries.
At the same time, a group of protesters who called themselves Dhammayatra submitted an open letter accusing the Cambodian prime minister of distorting the facts regarding the dispute focusing on the overlapping area adjacent to the ancient Preah Vihear temple.
Security has been tightened at the Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok.
The Cambodian premier said again on his arrival at the ASEAN summit in the Thai resort towns of Cha-am and Hua Hin over the weekend that his government would allow Mr Thaksin, now in self-imposed exile, to take refuge in Cambodia and work as the his economic advisor and that Cambodia would not extradite him as asked by Thailand.
Mr Hun Sen's remark came as former Thai prime minister Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyuth, chairman of the opposition Puea Thai Party, visited Phnom Penh unofficially last week.
Thailand said it would seek Mr Thaksin’s extradition if it is known that he is staying in the neighbouring country.

It's very embarrassing to the whole country in general when the head of the govt who said something based on personal feeling and totally misinform. It's time to quit DUDE,you have made all of us look bad in the eyes of the world..
9:48 PM,
I agree!
Huynh Sen still have his jungle mentality and not to mentioned shield off from the rest of the real world should just simply shut his stinky mouth up. The issues of Preah Vihear is still heated and he want's to create more problems. I don't know he was 'misinform' when he have as many as 200 advisor. What an instigator!
Cambodia Town
Long Beach, Ca
Samdech Deycho Hun Sen was right, he has got Siam bigger lyon (Thaksin Shinawatra)inside his territory, so Siam Privy Council, PAD must be careful about our Cambodian Preah Vihear Temple issued, treated our people fairly;therefore, we will give Siam more time to think before we take them to International court of justice.

Huynh Sen still have his jungle mentality and not to mentioned shield off from the rest of the real world. He should just shut his stinky mouth up and let it be. The issues of Preah Vihear is still heated and he want's to create more problems. I don't know how he was 'misinformed' when he have as many as 200 advisor. Let's face it. Installed himself as a Cambodia PM is already set a low standard for us. With his tarnish reputations, I don't think he can do any more damage.
When he(HUN SEN) the head of the govt said something wrong or right publicly ,he has to stick with it no matter what.To promise to never say that stupid again prove to us that he's nothing but a jerk in the world public arena.Very shameful.
Thaksin issue in Thailand has nothing to do with Cambodian.
He is already considered as HUN SEN economic adviser.
Thai needs to BACK OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope HUN SEN allows Thaksin in the country soon. We need Thaksin to build company for us.
PM Hun Sen must do the following:
1) Instead of building a House for Thaksin, use the money to help the victims of typhoon Ketsana.
2) If he needs another economic advisor, then hire a Khmer national to reduce unemployment in Srok Khmer.
3) Kick the illegal viets out of the country
These are the highest priorities.

Not if you're harboring a fugitive.
Thailand have every rights to tried and extradite Shinawatra according to the agreement between the two country. Bottom line, Shinawatra is a felon. Hun Sen shouldn't publicly announce his stupid remarks. Now, the rest of the world can label Cambodia as a country that harbor criminal. Nice going Hun Qvack!
I couldn't agree more 1:39AM.
Sheltering a felon in your home is as guilty as felon itself. If HUN SEN just represent himself is fine ,but he does it in the name of Cambodia is just unacceptable.
If Thailand is tough and want to arrest Thaksin, why don’t they go after him since they know where he is staying now? Why they are afraid of one man as a run around fugitive taking refuge in neighboring countries? Don’t just barking at Cambodia ah Thai thug!
Thanks 2:27 AM!
Hun Sen need to understand that this not a personal matter. This is political and it's involved the Kingdom as a whole. This is childish and unacceptable as a leader, representing a country. This will create a further turmoil and our country is at risk. He need to consult before running his mouth.
(2:55 AM)
Let me let you in on how the legal precedure work.
FYI, Thailand and the United Emerate doesn't have extradition treaty. Therefore, you just can fly to another country and arrest him. This is why Shinawatra chose UE as his safe house.
To eliminate embarrassment, I suggest you do a little research first before posting.
3:39 AM - If ah Thai thug respect and understand the extradition, they should understand and respect the verdict passed by the world court about Preah Vihear belongs to Cambodia! People know about countries that have extradition, but why can’t you Thai hooligan go after him anyway whether extradition or not.
we congrat. Hun Sen, to say like as to maily mention to Border dispute with Flip-Flop thailand...
his interview is not only takshin but as for Preah Vihear.. to stand with lawless thailand hun sen must say like that.....
Chey yo decho...

Why don't the Thai government extradite Thaksin in Dubai...why wait until he is in Cambodia??? Next Time, Mr. Suthep showed up in Samdech Hun Sen's house...Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen should pee in his favorite Khmer somlor krakor!
Samdech Hun Sen is right about Thaksin. He was illegally removed from office by a coup in 2006. The ones who should serve two-year term in prison are the people who were behind the coup! They include King Phimiphon, Prem Tinsulanond, Gen. Boonyaratglin, etc. And of course, Abhisit Vejjajiva is not a legitimate Prime Minister elected by the Thai people. Samdech Hun Sen is correct about helping a friend who is a victim of the Thai Royalist. The PAD tries to use Cambodia's Preah Vihear as a scapegoat for their internal conflicts. Preah Vihear's case was long over nearly five decades ago...The verdict of ICJ June 15 1962 was clear in black and white...there is no overlapping areas between Cambodia and Thailand. Sarit Thanarat's unilateral map is baseless and unlawful. It contradicts the 1904-07 Franco-Siamese treaty which was acknowledged signed by France and King Chulalongkorn. The 4.6 sq. km. is rightfully belongs to Cambodia according to the map. Offering Thaksin a job as an economic advisor to Samdech Hun Sen is to the interest of Cambodia. If Thaksin accept the post...He will surely be a great advisor and a major achiever. It is sad to see Thaksin, who has done so much for his coutry and still has no country to live as quoted by Samdech Hun Sen. Thaksin should be granted Cambodian citizenship immediately and bestow a decoration of honor by His Majesty King Sihamoni. There are many foreign statesmen who had already received royal order of Cambodia.
They include the following people:
Josip Broz Tito
Jean de Lattre de Tassigny
Sultan Ibrahim of Johor
Hor Namhong
Bao Long
Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala
Tengku Fauziah binti Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid
Jean-Baptiste Billot
Achar Penh
Congrat. Hun Sen decision to accept Takshin, it is meanining ful for cambodia to solve Border disputes... hun sen must say like that to confront with lawless /flip-flop thailand....
No words to talk directly regarding Border disputes .. just about Takshin...
Chey Yo Hun sen.....
Some people do not understand what/why hun Sen said .. may be just about takshin...no no...)
