CHA-AM : Thailand still hopes for an end to the spat with Cambodia as the Asean summit draws to a close today.
Asean leaders will wrap up their three-day meeting in Cha-am district in Phetchaburi, and Hua Hin district in Prachuap Khiri Khan today with the East Asia summit between 10 Asean leaders and their counterparts from China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia and India.
Acting government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said yesterday that the government had no plans to confront Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen over the Thaksin issue.
"The press conference by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva [on Friday] was Thailand's toughest stance from the leader," said Mr Panitan.
On Friday, Mr Abhisit clearly sent the message that his Cambodian counterpart had to choose between his personal relationship with ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and good relations with Thailand.
Hun Sen's offer of a temporary home for Thaksin, a position as an economic adviser and his refusal to extradite Thaksin if he comes to Cambodia has upset the government.
A government source said the Cambodian leader's remarks were a shock for diplomats, and Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya noted that they were "unacceptable".
Mr Kasit intended to give a press conference to counter Hun Sen's statement, but was stopped from doing so by Mr Abhisit, who decided to give the press conference himself, the source added.
The Thai and Cambodian leaders have no current plans for bilateral meetings in the near future due to their tight schedules, according to Mr Panitan.
The acting spokesman said the government was keeping an eye on Thaksin, and there were suspicions that he could be in a Southeast Asian country.
"The Thai government has been tracking Thaksin's travels in the Asean region over the past few weeks.
"But until now there has been no confirmation that he entered Cambodia recently," said Mr Panitan.
The Democrat Party yesterday pressed the Cambodian leader to clarify his previous statements about Thaksin, and party spokesman Buranat Samutharak called his remarks an intervention in Thailand's affairs.
Meanwhile, Veera Somkhamkid and a group of supporters of the People's Alliance for Democracy yesterday submitted a letter to demand Hun Sen withdraw soldiers and personnel from the 4.6 square kilometre disputed area near the Preah Vihear temple within seven days.

Why every fucken shit come out Siem leader's mouth such as AH ABshit and Khmer leaders have to be fearful of? Fear for what! The fucken Siem leaders have no right to force Khmer leaders to pick and choose between what they want because they should know by now that Khmer leaders can't please them all the time!
First of all, Why would any Khmer leaders choose to deal with a hostile AH ABISHIT illegal government! The Thai government under AH ABISHIT leadership create all kinds of problem for Cambodia since day one...it has become so redundant and incessant on the same issue of Khmer Phrea Vihear which was decided by the World Court since 1962!
Second, Even without AH ABishit illegal government and the Khmer leaders have all the time in the world to deal with any new Thai government in the future!
Third, AH Abishit has too many personal issue of his own and one of them is political rival and he is willing to destroy Thailand just to score against his political rival!
If Khmer leaders have patience and soon enough AH ABISHIT government will go too!
Why fear? Fear is only for stupid people!
Will mr hun sen bark again? this guy only acts tough with khmer people. recently he arrogantly barks like a dog claiming he could order cambodian troops to round up his critics in phnom penh in just two hours. He's just a barking dog.
two men who came to power through a coup d'etat surely can find a solution.
do you believe the barking dog dont bite but what happen to those who rise up against him in the past ten years?. where they all go?
11:32 Ah Choy MARAI barking dog only bites Khmer People! But with Ah Siem He doesn't have teeth to bite!In the past you all see that Ah Kwak acted Tough in languace but his action is very weak in front of Ah Yuon and Ah Siem
Ah Choy Maday or Ah choy maray or Ah Mother-fucker, Ah Kvak Hun Sen, Ah Mécho Khmer Krâhâm ( Khmer rouge) Ah Khnhom Yuon.Ah Ngorb khnong Pél Chhab-chhab nis. Pél Ah Khvak èng ngorb Ah èng aûs Khbal Ah Norosom Sihanouk tov than norok phâng.
Hey 12:03PM,
It's very easy to intimidate or frighten our own people because they are poor and weak .It's will be a suicidal to go against our neighbors.
let go for a toughter stand againt siem they been using prea vihea for to long now we shoud use thaksin to hostile them back this move of pm hun sen would be no lose because we had nothing to win with ahpishit goverment. i fell like war is emerging.
why are you guys have to curse at each other? right now Khmer must unite and work together. Otherwise there will be no more Khmers. It'll be just the Youn and Siam. Think about it.
Hun Sen should be careful with his words. The Thai military would whip the shit out of the Khmer military, police and all the mean street punks in a matter of days. Khmer would not stand a chance of winning in a battle with the Thais. The Thais can do far more economic, financial and political damage to the Khmers than the wimpy Khmers can do to the Thais. Hun Sen is such an ass sometimes
1:31pm don't be sosure of your thai military. they are a bunch of lazy bumps who never spend a day in battle. when it is time to fight, your thais will run for their lives before the first bullet fired.
1:31pm maybe your siem soildier have to learn how to not run away from the battle fiel before they face off with khmer soildier,if siem soilder try to break throught the fronline should prepare between 50000-100000 soilder and half would be kill because khmer soilder just wait and spray siem soilder wiyh bullet and bring all your F-16 khmer will shoot them down too.
Ah kwack left eye never close, even he's sleeping, mee kachrook always had nightmare...

Let's Siam PM Abhisit Vejjajeva know that good neighbor, don't invade other sovereignity, respect it's people fairly, but your government did the opposite by killing our defenseless people, without bringing the culprits to justice. Furthermore, Ex PM Thaksin Shinawatra was popular than your guys, but he was the victim of political manipulation by group of Privy Royal Council. In addition, your intimidation does serve well in the current political climate against Cambodia government.
New Phally
Cambodia is not afraid from Thailand, but Tahsin acted crime in his country, so he has no place for Asylum in Cambodia.
Hun Sen is immature. No matter where he goes, what he say reflects that level of growing up.
Even though he is over 60 something, he still think like a grade school bully - he love to play tic for tac games and want to be the last one point to fingure.
Hun Sen should know that the situational comparison between Ang Sua Ky and Taksin is wrong and he is degrading Sua Ky down to the same level of corruption and putting her in the disgusting category of state fugitive as his friend.
He offend may people by his remark. Not only the Thai government, but also the Burmese people.
As a Khmer person, I will not 'unite' under that reckless behavior and childish acts and thinking of the prime minister.
Since Hun Sen was a Khmer Rouge commander, now a Khmer Rouge leader and had many of his political opponents assassinated, I wonder if he have any plan to assassinate the Thai Prime Minister (Abhisit Vejjajiva)?
everything will happening next no one can know between khmer and thai so keep our time to contince see his idea of Hun Hen does in futuer.hahahaha
i know which one cambodia will choose!
Ah kwack wake up! Ah Seim chole sroke heuy. Don't take no more nap man! what a looser!
