Many people talk about Aung San Suu Kyi of Burma, so why they don't talk about Thaksin as a victim? - Hun SenHua Hin - Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on Thursday that he planned to appoint convicted ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as his economic advisor.
He made the statement upon arrival at Hua Hin airport to attend the 15th Asean Summit. He missed the Asean Summit's opening ceremony on Friday morning as he was busy receving South Korean President Lee Myung-bak.
"It is true that I would invite former Prime Minister Thaksin to visit Cambodia anytime and to be my economic advisor," he said through an interpreter.
He denied that he was interfering in Thailand's internal affairs.
"Our concern is for humanitarian reasons, it is friends helping friends. The internal affairs of Thailand would be left for Thai people to resolve, I am not interfering."
"I would like to suggest that you should read the extradition treaty between Thailand and Cambodia on Article 3. So he can stay in Cambodia as a guest of Cambodia and he also can be my advisor on the economic (matters)."
Article 3 of the Thai-Cambodia extradition treaty states that extradition would not be granted if the requested party considered the offence is political one.
Thaksin was sentenced to two years in jail in absentia in Thailand for abusing of power and corruption.
Hun Sen insisted that it was not an interference in Thailand's internal affairs but it is a political rights of sovereign state of Cambodia.
Asked whether the plan would be considered interfering in Thai politics, Hun Sen insisted that it was under Cambodia's rights to do so.
He continued many people talked about Aung San Suu Kyi in Burma but why they do not talk about Thakin as a victim. So that cannot refer to the interference of Cambodia to Thai internal affairs.
He told reporters that in Thailand, there were a lot of "red shirts" supporting Thaksin.
Hun Sen said it was internal Thai affairs in case Cambodia did not arrest Thaksin when he entered Cambodia.
He however said he was not supporter of Thaksin. "Don't accuse Hun Sen of supporting Thaksin in the politics of the Red Shirts."
He also referred to a visit of Cambodia's opposition leader Sam Rainsy recently.
Sam Rainsy was invited to Thailand and he issued a statement against the government of Cambodia. And then the second National TV of Thailand made a comment on Cambodia, criticising myself and Thaksin.
"Sam Rainsy came to Thailand and criticised my government. I did not make any complaint about it," he said.

Yes Sam Ransy should consider an alliance with Abisit under the support from the US to topple Hun Sen. Many Cambodians may advocate this idea.

Hun Sen is right about giving hospitality to Thaksin. He is 100% correct about the article #3 on the treaty. He can make Thaksin as his economic adviser.

If I were SRP, I would stay put for now and wait to see ADhisit and Hun Sen fight. Don't say anything that can be used later on by Hun Sen against SRP. Hun Sen uses this tactic not to love Thaksin as his friend but to gain from him to bargain from Thailand as well as to hit back at SRP if SRP jump nito taking side.
You know that Hun Sen never had a good friend. All friends he made because he is in power and he can give them wealth or his friend can give him benefit to keep him in power (like China and S Korea or VN). If a friend criticize him, he will be surely cut off friendship.

Hun Sen is clever and he plays to win. In the past, he outmaneouvered Pol Pot clan, Funcipec, SRP and HRP. Now, he is using his skill to outsmart Abhisit and put Thailand in the defensive position.
Hun Sen has proved that he can maneouver in both battlefields and diplomatic fronts - at home or on international stage.
For some of you who are affraid that Thailand will launch military offensive on Cambodia, don't worry. Thailand would not do that because they already have enough problems at hands. Hun Sen knows that well, and that's why he stages the current coup on Thai politic.

Thailand not like Cambodia is mature sufficiently not to invade Cambodia.
But Thailand can make Hun Sen blood pressure build up and eventually kill himself by a stroke by only a tip of fingers/pen not by gun, just letting people who oppose to Sun Sen take refuge in Thailand and denies extradite to Cambodia as Hun Sen refuses to extradite Thaksin.
Not to mwention economic sanction, which 3/4 part of Cambodia's western provinces depend on Thailand. Thailand needs not to wage war of gun, only food, electric, and pen are enough to make Hun Sen blood pressure skyrocketing. Thailand has more gamecards to paly than Hun Sen's gcards.

Those SRP members and supporters want to be in politic, yet they can't event do the basic reasoning. Sam Rainsy is about sixty five years old, and Hun Sen is roughly ten years younger than him. The way it looks right now Hun Sen is likely to stay in power for at least another ten years. By then Sam Rainsy will be around seventy five years old. Do SRP supporters think that Sam Rainsy is physically and mentally fit to run the country at seventy five years old?
Sam Rainsy is too weak to challenge Hun Sen. But those SRP supporters don't see it, and they keep blaming Hun Sen instead of replacing Sam Rainsy with a better candidate.

Thai does not like to play by the rule and tricky is what they are known for as a nation. PM Hun Sen may be a pawn as Abhisit stated, but if you know how to work the pawn it can be very powerful. Through out history, Thai always have been Khmer's parasite regarding teritories and Preah Vihear issues; however, now the tide has turned due to their political instability. If PM Hun Sen play the game correctly, this is a good opportunity to let them know that Thai is not a superior race as they thought and paying back is a bitch.

I am not worried about it. Hun Sen is not an educated man but he stays in power too long he knows so many tactics. What he said to the unelected PM Abhisit was out from his frustration, because Abhisit came to power didn't solve the problems rather the problems escalating. The shot and burned alive of Kaun Khmer was a big insulting from Abhisit to Cambodia, that is why Hun Sen hits back.
Hun Sen has experiences in politics and he is also very cleaver. Not even that he employed smart people to work for him.

Hun Sen will offer Thaksin an advisor post on top of that also a beautiful Khmer bride since Thaksin is now divorced.
I would say, Mr. Hun Sen the PM of Cambodia is a very smart person, otherwise he never sent his own sons to the West Point Military Academy in the US.
As I knew, Mr. Hun Sen always interested in the educational of young generation of Khmer. Another important point to know, almost higher ranking Khmer authority or government employees only wanted to sent their own children to the luxurious schools or to North Vietnam, but not the western Military academies.
