The new Region 2 Army chief has pledged to take a peaceful approach to solve the country's border dispute with Cambodia.
Region 2 Army Commander, Lieutenant General Weewalit Jornsamphan revealed that he visited his counterpart in the Cambodia's region 4 army area, Lieutenant General Jia Morn last week as they held talks about the problems stemming from recent border disputes.
Lieutenant General Weewalit has been in his post for only one month.
Lieutenant General Weewalit said his stance over the border dispute with Cambodia is based on the Army and government's policies and in compliance with the agreement that was co-signed by the Thai and Cambodian foreign ministers.
He also stated that the two countries will exercise peaceful means and negotiations, not be the first side to use force, and will maintain a good relationship between Thailand and Cambodia.
The Thai Region 2 Army commander believes there are solutions that can help resolve the conflicts.
As for the readjustment in the number of armed forces stationed at the top of Phrea Vihear Mountain, Lieutenant General Weewalit said the matter has been an issue for some time, but the two countries feel that maintaining troops is still necessary, as the situation there is still not stable.
However, the commander gave assurances that Thai military camps on the mountain will not be reinforced, while the atmosphere along Thai-Cambodian border is not worrisome at this time as interactions and relationships in the area remain strong.
He has also ordered a close watch on a group of farmers who planned to expand their farmlands into the border zone in Surin province.

Thailand usually sending heavy machine to disputed area to showing off their muscles and intimidating a poor weak cambodia, but they have changed so far, i think they got scared alittle abit, because khmer Hun Sen army really kick their ass so bad in the last fight, the only thing Thai has advantaged on cambodia is their Air Power, that's it! if cambodia can have some weapons to defense Thai air power, cambodia will be safe....
