ASEAN urges Thailand, Cambodia to resolve feud

Saturday November 7, 2009

BANGKOK (AP) - The Association of Southeast Asian Nations expressed concern Saturday over a worsening diplomatic feud between Cambodia and Thailand and urged the neighboring countries to exercise restraint.

Already tense relations between the two nations erupted this past week when Cambodia named fugitive Thai ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra its economic adviser.

Thailand recalled its ambassador Thursday, and Cambodia followed suit.

The row stands to embarrass the 10-nation bloc and undermine its credibility at a summit of Asian and Pacific leaders in Singapore later this month, ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan said.

Surin expressed "concern over the escalation of tensions between Cambodia and Thailand (and) has appealed to both countries to exercise maximum restraint," an ASEAN statement said.

Surin took the unusual step of publicly asking ASEAN's foreign ministers to "assist the two (countries) to settle their bilateral dispute amicably and as soon as possible." ASEAN generally abides by a policy of not interfering in the internal affairs of its members.

The appointment of Thaksin as an economic adviser to Cambodia's government, announced Wednesday, soured already poor relations between the two neighbors, which have had small but sometimes deadly skirmishes over their land border in the past year.

The diplomatic dispute is closely tied to an ongoing political struggle within Thailand, where Thaksin is at the center of a political crisis and street protests that have gripped the country since 2006.

Thaksin was ousted in a 2006 military coup for alleged massive corruption and other charges. His supporters say he should be pardoned and returned to power. Since the coup, Thaksin has lived abroad to escape a corruption conviction and two-year prison sentence.

When two peoples fight each other, both are at fault...Cambodia and Thailand probleme can be resoluted as follow:

1. Hun Sen remove Thaksin Economic Adviser position.

2. Abisit return the 4.6K surrounding Preah Vihear back to Cambodian people.

3. Speed-up border demarcation between the two country. Sea, Land and Air.

4. Work together to promote Tourism and Friendship.

This is the Win Win solution for both country as member of ASEAN.

Yuon will be the head of ASEAN after Thai next year.

Sdach Korn Hun Sen wants Thaksin to topple Thai monarchy and become King Taksin himself. Hun Sen sacrifices Khmer interests in favour of his own interests and that of King Taksin. Sdach Korn Hun Xen is got caught in the middle of Thai internal politics now. Thaksin cannot win and become King Taksin, so Khmer people is embarass because Hun Sen support Thaksin. About 480,000 Khmer workers in Thailand and their families at home are now got cold feet. Around a million Khmer people along the borders are fear of losing their jobs and bussinesses. If war break out, people will be forced to be soldiers and/or give financial support for soldiers. Hun Sen doesn't care about the suffering of Khmer people; he only listens to his boss VN. Yuon benifits from this tension:1. Sells weapon to Cambodia; 2. Khmers have no choice but to buy Yuon's products and go to VN to use their services; 3. Cambodia can't explore oil, so that VN and Thai can continue to get more oil from the sea. Hun Sen's games are only serving the Yuon's interests. Bravo Hun Sen!!! Poor people vote for him again and again and again!!! Long live Cambodia!!!

yellow shirts and red shirts are fighting to be in power. As a leader of a country, Hun Xen should be smart to stay nuatral and get as much benifits as possible for Cambodia. Yuon is very smart to use Hun Sen to lit the Thai's house that is already on fire, so that Thai people hate Cambodia and consider Cambodia their enemy. Yuon is staying on top of the mountain to see Thais and Cambodians fighting. Both countries are suffering economically, mentally and probably militarily. Yuon and Yuon alone is profiting economically and politically. Bravo Hun Sen!!! Long live Hun Sen and his children to lead Cambodia forever!!! Long live Hun Sen's blind subordinates!!! Long live Cambodia!!!

The Thais are a bunch of loonies ultra-nationalists...What is the matter with them??? It's true that Cambodia do not have economic experts, that's why Samdech Hun Sen imports foreign know-how like Lee Myung Bak and now Thaksin. The Thais are ingrateful bastards who owe so much to Cambodia for the past 800 years. They are imperialists who can not exert control beyond their borders...Instead of fostering fraternal friendship between our two peoples (Khmer-Thai) which share so much in common, they choose the wrong path to self-destruction and humiliation. In the eyes of the world, they are indeed a crazy disturbed people...
