"We are well aware that it is the right of Cambodia to appoint Thaksin. But let me ask you this: what would PM Hun Sen say, if we were to appoint Cambodia's Opposition leader Sam Rainsy as our economic adviser" - Suthep ThaugsubanCambodia's appointment of convicted ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as its economic adviser is the country's internal affair but it should make a clear separation between its personal relationships and those of the country as a whole.
"It's not worth having problems with Thailand just because of a convicted runaway" - Suthep Thaugsuban
Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Thailand could not do anything about the appointment.
"It's Cambodia's internal affair. But if we have evidence that Thaksin is in Cambodia, we will surely ask the Cambodian government to extradite him," he said.
The Cambodian government has appointed Thaksin, who has been convicted in Thailand for abuse of power and corruption and sentenced to two years in jail, as an economic adviser to Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen and his government.
"We are well aware that it is the right of Cambodia to appoint Thaksin. But let me ask you this: what would PM Hun Sen say, if we were to appoint Cambodia's Opposition leader Sam Rainsy as our economic adviser," Suthep said.
He did not think Cambodia was ready to have problems with Thailand on the matter. "It is not worth having problems with your neighbouring country just because of a convicted runaway," he said.
If Cambodia refuses to follow the extradition treaty, the Thai government will look into the matter to see whether it violates the bilateral laws, he said.

Folk - Hun Sen starts to play with fire. Nothing gain for Cambodian, only people will suffer event more. This action shows as Hun Sen doen't care Khmer well being but his criminal friend, Thaksin. Where ever he goes, he is a criminal by legal mean. Thai government cannot use force to extradite Thaksin but they can do economic sanction, border closure and guest who will hurt the most?
It's time for Khmers people to rethink what benefit their livelihood the most?
I am no fan of PM Hun Sen, but on this one I urge him to hang tough and do not hesitate to use a thug to fight other thugs.
Let Mr. Sam Rainsy take care of the slimy viets. Both tai/viet are our enemies.
I am not against Thaksin. But what the point of appointing Thaksin as Hun Sen´s economic adviser? What benefit Cambodia will take from this appointment?
2;42 THAI RAK THAI ...THAI LOVES THAI only Unlike Stupid Khmer Leaders who always do anything for their personal friend only not for the nation interest! Thaksin said he likes to help Thais!
It´s a culture of Yes Yes and OP Pong (Testicle grabbing). All CPP say yes, Yes when Hun Sen appointed Thaksin as his Economic advisor.
I am not CPP,
but before we accuse the PM Mr. Hun Sen, please use time to study the declaration of the Royal Cambodian Government from 04.11.09 on Khmerlive.tv
What's wrong for thanksin being hun sen eco advisor? Thai govt should lay back for while. In my thought ab pee sit should step down for the good of thai people. Plus he lack of skill.

Deputy PM Suthep maybe corrected about Sam Rainsy looking for job to earn extra money to pay off his utilities bills, lawyer fee. That means, Sam Rainsy should send his resume to Thai government for job consideration.
New Phally
Hun Sen knows how to make fun of the PAD THAIS.
I ate Pad Thai for lunch!!!
For once I agree with you New Phally. Suthep Thaugsuban got it all wrong. Cambodians would be very glad if Thai government hires Mr. Sam Rainsy. Beside, Mr. Rainsy would not mind earning extra cash to cover his expense.
