Cambodia has rejected a request for the extradition of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is now visiting the Southeast Asian nation.
On Wednesday, Thai diplomats presented Cambodian officials with a request to detain and extradite Mr. Thaksin. He arrived in Cambodia on Tuesday, where he has been appointed economic adviser to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Cambodia responded with a diplomatic note rejecting the request.
Mr. Thaksin fled Thailand more than a year ago to avoid a two-year jail sentence for corruption.
The Cambodian government has said it considers Mr. Thaksin's conviction to be politically motivated.
In response to Cambodia's decision, the Thai government has threatened tear up its extradition treaty with Cambodia and to review other joint agreements if Mr. Thaksin is not sent back.
Relations between the two neighbors have been strained for more than a year because of a territorial dispute.
There are concerns that soured relations between the two neighbors could spill over to a Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting that is being held in Singapore on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.
On Thursday, Thaksin is scheduled to deliver a speech to 300 Cambodian economic experts. Cambodian officials have said he will stay in the country for two or three days but is not intending to live there.
Following Mr. Thaksin's appointment to the Cambodian government, both Thailand and Cambodia recalled their ambassadors.

I'm so proud of Cambodian government especially to our PM HUN SEN. He has done an outstanding job to stick up toward the aggressor.
We must not bend down to what the crybaby Thai (Abullshit) wanted. Do not spoil him. It is time to put him in the corner if he is not behaving.
Khmer will win!!
What does Thaksin bring to Cambodia? Nothing and no trade from both countries. That stupid Hun Sen should not involve with other country's politic. Hun Sen should spend his time to improve Camboida so that Thai would not look down Cambodians.
For me what I don't understand is that Abullshit is overreacting that's all.
He had threaten left and right and when the situation is fit his needs he close the embassy. Then our PM do the same thing. They can't pretend to good than abuse it.
They think Khmer will do what Thai ask?
No way!!
And it is too late with that stupid clown ASEAN chairman Surin Pitsuwan that wanted us to work with each other. This guy or this clown is very dangerous for ASEAN and very BIAS.
He should initiated the beginning for these two rivals to work together from the start.
Abullshit is requesting the extradition now? Didn't the one that close all the communication between Cambodia and Thailand and expect HUN SEN to send Thaksin to his country?
Cambodia is not acting like a baby like you. Cambodia has more mature politician then Bangkok nowaday.

""Most westerner analysts also think, not only is it a huge mistake for Thailand to be pushing the issue with Cambodia, they also believe it will further damage Thailand's economy and investment opportunities. With the Thai government constantly giving Thaksin more and more air time and making themselves look increasingly weak and ineffective, Thaksin is winning and they are losing. A better strategy would have been to just keep their mouths shut and pretend Thaksin doesn't even exist. All this chest beating though is playing right into Thaksin's hands, and he's loving every minute of it.""
IT IS TOO LATE TO REALIZE THIS!!

Abulshit is the trouble maker since he wasn't a PM. He had convinced the ASEAN for not letting Cambodia to join ASEAN but he lost then too.
He is piss because he kept loosing to HUN SEN one after another.
He didn't support Cambodia to join ASEAN in 1997..
This guy needs to think!

What kind of bullshit is that...the man was in Dubai for 3 years and they didn't go after him there! And now they want Thaksin in Phnom Penh after 3 days! Hun Sen dares you to send your Lady boy commandos anytime!...
Why didn't Thailand arrest him when he was in Dubai? Thailand must think Cambodia is an easy target and can do whatever they want.
If you look at the media, it was all HUn Sen and his family. No state man was really there and why Abhisit and his cabinet are so hiped up anyway?
god,
stop trash
opinion, not trash please
specially no yuon/cpp trash
3:43 AM,
This is no trash. This very useful and very interesting topic of the day. If you don't like or not happy don't come into this place. BACK OFF NOW!!!
2:32 & 3:22 (same person)
Hey dumb ass! Unlike Cambodia and Thailand, the United Arab Emirates do not have extraditon treaty with Thailand.
That is why Shinawatra fled to Dubai.
Got it now!
To 4:32
I thought somebody claim that Thai has the best Airforce in Asia, why can they intercept his air plane !!!! or rather the Airforce just for the show or threaten the neighbore only !!!!!!
3:22 AM,
How could Abhisit arrest Thaksin in Dubai, if the two have no treaty whatsoever?
Furtheremore, Abhisit cannot afford to make war with the Muslims while Muslims in South are ready to blow up themselves to kill Thais.
6:13,
Let's just say Thailand have capability to intercept Shinawatra's plane. Then what? Invading other country airspace is a violations of territory treaty.
Whoever said Thai have the best air combat in Asia is probably right. I believe they'd violate Cambodia airspace numerous time with no response or concern from Hun Sen.
If PM Hun Sen isn't so blind, maybe our neighbour won't stampede on us as much.
