Thailand's fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was due to meet supporters on Friday after a round of golf with Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen.
Earlier, Cambodia expelled a top Thai diplomat and Thailand reciprocated, further worsening relations after Phnom Penh named Mr Thaksin as an economics adviser.
Mr Thaksin has used his new advisory role to criticise the government of Thai prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva during a lecture in the Cambodian capital, accusing Thai rulers of "false patriotism."
Hun Sen has further angered Bangkok by refusing a request for the extradition of Mr Thaksin to serve a two-year prison sentence for graft.
