More than 200 houses caught fire Thursday in a poor Cham Muslim community on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, officials said.

The fire, which started early in the day and lasted for several hours, was caused by a cooking-gas explosion, officials said. It was a fierce fire and a challenge to combat.

“The roads are too narrow to allow our trucks to get in,” said Net Vanthan, chief of Phnom Penh municipal fire brigade.

No casualties were immediately reported.

However, villagers blame fire department for not doing enough.

“The fire trucks arrived on time, but they just did nothing,” said a man on conditions of anonymity and whose house was burned down. “Two fire boats also arrived at a [nearby] river bank, but they just parked there.”

It is very sad to see the fire in this big scale, and the firefighters could not contain it.

I hope City planner would learn from this lesson and will not allow constructor to build house without fire-protection and firefighter runway.

Phnom Penh is a GOOD example of bad town planning. Actually across Cambodia it all the same.
There is NO firetruck or Ambulance within 5km. So you have an accident or fire good luck to you... this include Hun Sen housesss

Even Hun Sen house no fire truck can get through as the super disorganise traffic jam will stopped it before it start

I,personally, don't want to piss the Muslim, because I think the government is ill-equipped with suicide bombers in Cambodia. If it does happens in Cambodia, Mr. Hun Sen will be in BIG trouble.

Muslim people must blame the CPP for the destruction of your homes.
