No Cambodian-Thai dispute raised at a meeting with Obama

Cambodia will not bring up a dispute with its neighboring Thailand in the first meeting of Asean leaders with the US President Barack Obama to be held this Sunday in Singapore, a foreign ministry's official said Friday.

“The first reason is that, this is an Asean’s internal affair, and secondly Cambodia wants this first meeting to proceed with a success,” Koy Kuong, a spokesman for Cambodia’s foreign ministry, said.

The statement was made after the Asean Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan expressed his concern during a lecture at Lee Kwan Yew school of public diplomacy in Singapore that current diplomatic row between Cambodia and Thailand would affect the first Asean-US meeting.

Singapore hosts Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) which President Obama is scheduled to join.

Prime Minister Hun Sen will leave for the meeting this weekend.

On November 25, 2009 an auspicious date to remember!!!!

Thailand and Cambodia should together celebrate the coming birthday of Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda Sirisobhabannavadi of Thailand (Thai: สมเด็จพระเจ้าภคินีเธอ เจ้าฟ้าเพชรรัตนราชสุดา สิริโสภาพัณณวดี) (born 24 November 1925) is the only daughter of late HM King Vajiravudh of Thailand and Queen Suvadhana (who was of Khmer descent). She is a first cousin of current HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej and third cousin of HM King Sihanouk of Cambodia. She is officially styled Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana.

well, i wouldn't be surprised a bit to learn that khmer and thai royalty are related by blood, especially in ancient time since. i would be nice for both kingdoms to cooperate and joint together for the sake of peace, prosperity and happiness for both people in the region, really. take for instance, in many european royalty as well, they often intermarried with other european royalty. take england for example, their royalty married into the russian royalty, greek royalty, and many more, i'm sure. also, cambodian history indicated that khmer royalty married with lao royalty, or even viet royalty as well. however, i think there were more khmer royalty related to old siem court as well as many khmer princesses were married into siem royalty, really. believe it or not, it is true.
