The simplest answer is to stay away from those politically motivated and Vietnamese plans.
- In order to shut up the mouth of Cambodians, to threaten, to quickly proceed its encroaching and test its authority inside CPP, Vietnam has planned to put those 6 sticks in the farm land of Cambodians when realized that Sam Rainsy will lead the Kathin there.
- Under its satellite team work, Vietnam has expected to throw one stone but kill two birds: to test its power inside CPP and threaten Cambodian people in the whole country in expressing their opinion regarding border encroachment of Vietnam.
- Vietnam has well perceived that 99% of mass media (TVs, Radio, Newspapers) in Cambodia are owned by the CPP to effectively manipulate Cambodian people.
- CPP has tried to degrade political popularity of Sam Rainsy by demoralizing as runny away (or hit and run) etc. But major Cambodian people have realized well the biased court, politcally motivated court of Cambodia government, and the human rights violation of Cambodia prison.

I disagree with you KY, i think of all the times they had lifted his immunity in the past, his decision to stay was correct.
But.
This one is different. This one regards not about him, it regards about the Khmer nation as whole and so when this court come, its not a court about prosecuting Rainsy, it is about prosecuting the whole of Khmer conscious, the poor farmers, the nationalist, the victims of land grab etc.
Sam Rainsy cannot afford to stay oversea for this one, he must show solidarity with the Khmer people, he need to be there to demonstrate that the CPP court work not for Khmer but for Hanoi.
There is no good in sitting out on this one. This is perfect opportunity for Khmer to see the true color of CPP on its people and territory stance.
Rainsy will be a hero if gets punished on behalf of the nation for standing up against Vietnam, and for this reason, the court and Vietnam will likely think twice about the sentencing.

If you’re really want to help the country, here what you and the opposition, especially Mr. Rainsy should have done.
Mr. Rainsy must remain in the country and ORDER his party members to boycott all parliamentary sessions until the CPP restore his immunity. Instead of writing the letter to the King asking his intervention, Mr. Rainsy must himself become more vocal about the Viet encroachment and incite the mass population to stand up, not against the CPP or PM Hun Sen, but against Hanoi.
You and I know that Hanoi pressures Hun Sen to remove Mr. Rainsy’s immunity. The right thing for Mr. Rainsy and people like you to do is NOT to hit back at PM Hun Sen, but to revolve against Hanoi by publicly inciting riots against yuon interests and community on Cambodia soil. Many CPP people will support you. Also, when you incite people against Hanoi, PM Hun Sen can go back and tell Hanoi that Khmer people will start a new revolution or that CPP will lose its legitimacy in parliament if Hanoi forces CPP to suppress Khmer Nationalists.
Instead of condemning PM Hun Sen, you and the opposition should lend him a helping hand to refuse Hanoi order.

In normal circumstance, yes Sam rainsy should stay put and faces Phnom Penh 's court. it is quite obvious that RGC of CPP won't consolidate with his action against encroachment of vietnam.
And indeed RGC prompts NA to lift MP's immunity from SR, so that SR becomes useless by being in cambodia. Of course he trusts cambodians' support for his act of defending cambodian territory, but it is not enough strength to force for change of CPP's action.
Our king may seem useless in country's affairs, but definitely there is a potential social roles for him to fullfil according to national constitution. His majesty can't be ignored but reported to, and he certainly can't neglect his duty of care, of which will be observed and perceived by international communities as being passive over social matters concerning safety of cambodians.
International pressure from donors, forcing RGC to comply and implement the constitution which is the golden key to unlock cambodians' misery.
We all hope that any political faction comes to realisation that integration of Indochinese federation is a fairly risky buisiness to cambodians, and so many of our compatriots mentioned that. Viet political indicators have been on alert and be flexible at all time to achieve its plan.
We do know that only solidarity we will win, for real peace to cambodians.
