The Ministry of Commerce has no plan to recall its commercial attaché to Cambodia for the time being, Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai said in Tokyo on Friday.

Mrs Porntiva is a member of the Thai delegation to the first Mekong-Japan summit in Tokyo.

She said she will discuss the matter with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, who is also at the summit.

“Traditionally, there will be no recall of the commercial attaché as the recall of Thailand’s ambassador to Cambodia is clear and strong enough to show the country’s disagreement with the appointment of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as an economic adviser to Hun Sen,” she said.

Commerce permanent secretary Yanyong Puangratch said the latest dispute has not yet affected border trade between the two countries.

“The Department of Foreign Trade reported that border trade was continuing as usual,” Mr Yanyong said.
