BANGKOK, Nov 5 (TNA) - Thailand's Ministry of Foreign affairs on Thursday recalled the Thai envoy to Phnom Penh, in its first step of retaliation to Cambodia after it has appointed convicted former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as personal advisor to Cambodian Premier Hun Sen and advisor on economy to his government.
The Thai foreign ministry reasoned that the Cambodian decision to appoint Mr Thaksin and its stated intention to deny Thailand's request to extradite the ex-Thai premier to face jail in Thailand means that the neighbouring country could not differentiate the bilateral relations of the two nations from personal ties, although the Thai government has repeatedly informed the Cambodian government that the two kingdoms' relationship must remain beyond personal ties.
The Thai foreign ministry said the decision made by the Cambodian government affects the feelings of the Thai people, as Mr Thaksin has been convicted of offenses and escaped jail, at the same time, he still has influence over domestic politics.
Mr Thaksin’s appointment as economic advisor of the Cambodian government and as personal advisor to Mr Hun Sen means that Cambodia is now intervening Thailand's domestic affairs and harming the Thai justice procedure, according to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Thai government cannot continue inattentive to the matter and must listen to the voice and sentiments of Thai people nationwide, said the foreign ministry, adding that the government must show its stance to let Cambodia know of the dissatisfaction of the Thai people.
The ministry said that Thailand has decided to review the Thai-Cambodian relationship and recall its ambassador to Phnom Penh, and review all commitments and cooperation between the two kingdoms.
The Thai ministry said that the Thai government has no choice, but must review bilateral cooperation although Thailand has always intended to work closely with Cambodia for the well-being of the Cambodian people and reduce gap between Cambodians and other ASEAN citizens.
The ministry said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has been informed of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s stance, simultaneously affirming that the Thai reaction is based on appropriate diplomatic measures, but is not aimed at igniting any violence.
The Thai prime minister later reaffirmed that Thailand will use only diplomatic measures as retaliation against Cambodia.
"Cambodia's decision affects the feelings of Thai people," Mr Abhisit reiterated. "The Thai foreign ministry must show Thailand's stance to let the Cambodian government know the feeling of the Thai people."
Mr Abhisit said checkpoints on border between the two countries would remain open and people-to-people relations would not be affected.
Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia heightened when Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen announced while attending the 15th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Hua Hin at the end of October that Mr Thaksin, whom he described as his close friend, could remain in Cambodia as his personal guest and could be his economic advisor.
Mr Hun Sen insisted that Cambodia will reserve its right to deny any request by Thailand to extradite ousted prime minister Thaksin if he stays there as Mr Thaksin case’s is only a political offense.
Mr Thaksin, ousted in a bloodless coup in September 2006, was later convicted and sentenced to a two-year jail term for malfeasance in the controversial Bangkok Ratchadapisek land purchase.
The ousted premier however jumped bail and fled the kingdom. He is reportedly living the United Arab Emirates, but his Thai passport was revoked and his visas to the United Kingdom and Germany were cancelled.

Cambodia is not your bitch, why should they listen to you?
I learned from TVK about reasons of Cambodian Gov't not to extradite EX-Thai PM Thaksin. The Cambodian Gov't compared his case to Ex President of PERU Mr. Fujimori, Japanese descent, who was convicted in Peru but fled to Japan. The Japanese Gov't decided against extradite him to PERU as Bristish refused Russian Gov't demand to extradite a Russian citizen to Russia. Mr. Fujimori finally got arrested in Chile and was extradited to PERU to stand trail.
But my point is although the hosted countries decided against extradition, those two fugitives were never granted any job in private and government.
Hun Sen is one step too fast. We will see who is ahead of game and blink first.
Ah Kwack Hun Xen, just acted by motherfucker Vietnamese told him to do! No fucking care of Cambodia or any kind of laws!
I think Hun Sen is trying to make war in side Thailand and use Thaksin as a weapon. Abhisit knows where Thaksin lives but doesn’t care, as long as he doesn’t move to Cambodia. But if he moves to Cambodia, the war in Thailand will start between the yellow and the red. I hope I'm wrong.
To Samdech Akkak Moha Sena Padei Decho Hun Sen:
Your Excellency,
You have made the right decision in offering Mr. Thaksin a position in your government, however, trust is a matter of our national security, having said that, I reccommend that Your Excellency would only allow Mr. Thaksin on the extent to a minimum information which internally affect our country socially, politically, and economically. Thus, Your Excelleny may still have the best positions to counter what Thailand retaliates against Cambodia. I honestly believe should Mr. Thaksin is working for Cambodia and under Your Excellency leadership, Cambodia will be in great shape in the near future.
I rest assure Your Excellency will be in good hands.
Cordially Yours
ST.
I concurred with 12:41 & 12:59 as P.M.H.S. cannot act without Vietnam behind the scene. This is a provocation from a P.M. with a TingMaung King that back him up! this is a joke come on guys! Cambodia under H.S. reign is dead wrong unless you want to provoke war with Thailand or unless you want to justify your 2010 budget to reinstate those retired army personnel or acting on behalf of Vietnam in order to suck Thailand into wars with Vietnam. There is no way he would act on his personal friendship what is the prize for Thaksin and for Hun Sen? and better yet for Vietnam? Can our parliament convene and oppose this move against H.S. and the King? I guess we sunk too deep.....
First of all, I just don't like foreigners to be working in the government level. It is too dangerous for Cambodia; especially Thais and the Viets. I know there are plenty of Viets right now. I just hope Hun Sen would stand against Vietnam as much as he is doing with Thailand. He got a thumb up from me for what he is doing with Thailand. But I don't like him to get involvement with Thailand politics even though we have a full rights to do so under the extradition treaty with Thailand. In a way, Thailand deserves whatever he is getting from Cambodia of their involvement in Cambodia politics too of Preah Vihear before this current government got their power. So this is a tit for tat game between the two country. No to mention Thailand play their politics of bulling Cambodia for more land mass and the oil under the Golf of Thailand.
The pain of the khmer people will be came again because of the Hun's policy used by Viet. When the war start, both side will be destroy (both buddhism countries) and the Viet will control all in Cambodia. MR Taksin as crimes for Thailand people and now as hero for Hun Sen is full internal interference from Cambodia to Thailand. That is the cause the total war will start very soon, no way turn back to normal relation with both peoples. That is very sad.

well, well, well, hun sen and thaksin are both corrupted leaders. they make good pair. thaksin did not kill any one. i apoved hun sen decision. now the thais have more headache then ever before, perhap they can forget about the border for awhile. when hun sen act against his own people. i dislike him but when he act against foreigner such as the crazy thais. i'm with him. you all should be too.
i think, the khmer leader in 1979 was pen savun(nor sure his name). he did not run the country as said by the vietnam govt. he ended up in hanoi prison camp for a long time. when he got out. he was banned from politic in cambodia. now what would you do if you were hun sen? sure he traded a piece of land for million of khmers with vietnam govt.
you could be dead by now if he doesnt do that. i think, its fair game. dont be so haard ass on him for some of you.
We are always against Hun Sen because of his betray our homeland. But if Hun Sen stand up against Hanoi because of its anexion Khmer we will support him 100%.
i'm sure the pad thugs trouble-makers and prostest at cambodia's preah vihear have affected khmer people's feeling, too! so, stop being so childish, siem!
