The Thai government recalled its ambassador from Phnom Penh on Thursday, following a decision by the Cambodian government to appoint ousted former premier Thaksin Shinawatra as an adviser to the Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The withdrawal, ordered by Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, was another blow to worsening relations between the two countries, which both have troops amassed along an already contentious border.
“We have recalled the ambassador as the first diplomatic retaliation measure to let the Cambodian government know the dissatisfaction of the Thai people,” Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was quoted saying in Bangkok.
“Last night’s announcement by the Cambodian government harmed the Thai justice system and really affected Thai public sentiment,” Agence France-Presse quoted Abhisit saying.
Officials announced on Wednesday that King Norodom Sihamoni had approved Thaksin as an economic adviser to Hun Sen, who has said he would welcome the fugitive official in spite of an extradition treaty with Thailand.

You have made the right decision in offering Mr. Thaksin a position in your government, however, trust is a matter of our national security, having said that, I reccommend that Your Excellency would only allow Mr. Thaksin on the extent to a minimum information which internally affect our country socially, politically, and economically. Thus, Your Excelleny may still have the best positions to counter what Thailand retaliates against Cambodia. I honestly believe should Mr. Thaksin is working for Cambodia and under Your Excellency leadership, Cambodia will be in great shape in the near future.

I thought Hun Sen was stupid , but Sihamouni was stupid too. What's the point appointing Thaksin to be an adviser to Hun Sen ? Thaksin can't even help himself right now , how can he help Hun Sen ? It only cause more trouble for the two Countries.
It is really shame for Cambodian government to offered a position to the person who doesn't want it.

Sorry guy, I am going to go with PM Hun Sen on this one. Yes, he did a lot of wrong thing, but when it comes to pissing off the Thai, I am 100% all for it regarless if Youn is behind it or not. Both Siem and Youn had done wrong to our people in the pass and the present, we can not fight both of them at the same time. Therefore, if we have an opportunity to get one right now, why not? We can not forget that Siem took as much of our lands as Youn. In the 80's, thousands of Khmer were tortured, killed or raped by the ruthless Thai soldiers at the border. Contrary as a Buddhist nation, they were very crueled and hatred toward our people. For this reason, I am supporting PM Hun Sen for his courage to puch Thai's government in the mouth. People need to stop worrying about war because Siem can not affort it right now, they have too many enemies around them. Bravo PM Hun Sen!!!!

It appears that Hun Sen did according to Viets plan. If Thai-Cambodian relation come to an end because of Thaksin issue, all goods from Thailand will not be made available to Cambodian any more and all goods imported will be solely from Vietnam instead. The Viets will benefit the most from Hun Sen's action.

All of you are strategically blind. What Hun Sen does is to turn your attention to Khmer-Thai conflict. This is not the real problem. This real problem is that the economy is plummeting. Hun Sen Govt is imposing tax on his subjects (SIC!) who are earning so hard. Second, Hun Sen cuts salary from public workers. Third, illegal demarcation between Viet & Khmer Gov't.

I can see that most Khmer have so much hatred toward PM Hun Sen and that they even choose, Thai's government (Abhisit) over him. Personally, I am not a CPP supporter, but currently I am applausing on PM Hun Sen's decissions to stand firm with Khmer enemy (Siem). PM Hun Sen may never been to Oxford or West Point like most of the world leaders, but we can not argueing that he is not a smart politician. Therefore, he doesn't need for us to tell him about Youn is have their hand on his throat. At this point, Youn having an influence on his decission is irrelevant, because Siem have been and will always be Khmer's enemy. We can not win with Siem over the border isssue playing by the rules, so we have to play their game and PM Hun Sen is the best candidate for it. In conclusion, you can say whatever you want about PM Hun Sen, but to me his bloods is Khmer and deep down he still wants to prove that he is one of us. God bless my people.
