Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday launched the national policy of land distribution for retired army forces to improve their living conditions and in purpose of transforming unused land into productive land.
"After our army force retired from positions, they become poor and vulnerable people in society. Therefore the government needs to launch the national policy for land distribution for our retired army forces that devoted their life to protect and serve the country," Hun Sen said at the launching ceremony at Chaktomuk theater hall in Phnom Penh.
"Moreover, it is for gratitude for our armed forces and protect their dignity and improve their living conditions," he said, adding that it could also transform our unused land into productive land like planting agricultural crops.
"Each family will get a plot of land over one or two hectare," he said. He also ordered relevant ministries to collect clear data and identification for armed forces who plan to live on social concession land.
He highlighted that the government demobilized about 17,000 armed forces with help from donors to transfer them into civilians. The government also cut over 2,500 hectares of land in Siem Reap province and handed it to the Ministry of National Defense for land distribution for retired soldiers and also build the development villages for soldiers at the northern and western border.
