The government yesterday denied Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen's accusation of plotting to stage a coup to topple the government in Phnom Penh.
"The Thai government will never do such a thing," Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said, and added his government had a policy to maintain good ties with neighbouring countries.
He said the Thai government would not interfere in Cambodia's internal affairs and had never criticised Cambodian politics.
Relations between Thailand and Cambodia plunged after Hun Sen appointed former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra as his adviser. The two countries downgraded diplomatic relations and there are no moves to normalise ties.
Prime Minister Abhisit turned down Indonesia's offer to mediate, saying he had already explained his side of the story to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and hoped that such an explanation could help.
However relations look unlikely to improve in the near future. Hun Sen was quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying in a speech at a provincial ceremony on Thursday that he had seen a secret Thai government document outlining a plan to mount a coup.
"You have outlined bad scenarios, including preparing to wage war against Cambodia," Hun Sen said.
Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Cambodia might have received incorrect information from ousted prime minister Thaksin.
Suthep insisted the Thai government had never thought of intervention in Cambodian politics and Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was a champion of democracy who would never stoop to destroy the neighbouring country through other means.
The information Cambodia has received from Thaksin and opposition Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Promphan is incorrect and it might have misled the Cambodian leader, Suthep said.
The Foreign Ministry on Thursday lodged a complaint with the police, charging key leaders of the anti-government red-shirt group with publicising confidential documents and libel following a leak of the ministry's classified document on relations between Thailand and Cambodia.
Army chief Anupong Paochinda said he did not expect any Thai people would be involved in politics in the neighbouring country.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva:
Don't denied please!
Hun Sen who first as Khmer Rouge commander in east region, and then as Foreign Minister, and Prime Minister holding with absolute power for 30 years in this tiny kingdom which shares over one half
of its national boundaries with Yuon vietcong.
During the World War II, and the Japanese occupation from 1940 to 1945, the year of Japanese defeat. This was followed by the reconquest of Indochina by the allies forces, bringing with the triumphal return of the French to that region.
During the year of 1940 Thailand controled the entire province of Battabang and part of the province of Siem Reap. The Thai occupation in these provinces lasted from 1941to 1945.
From 1945 to 1954, Cambodia had to face two great problems.
• The first was the political struggle with French for complete independence.
• The second proplem was the danger from the expansion of the Vietnamese forces known by the same of Viet Minh, who carried out guerrilla operations against the Frence presence in Indochina.
The Viet Minh troops in Cambodia continued to expand gradually as the political and military situation of the regime in power deteriorated.
The Viet Minh forces established themselves more and more deeply in Cambodia. Their method was to move into certain frontier regions to facilitate taking over particular areas in the interior of Cambodia just before the singing of the Geneva agreements in 1954.
On January 7, 1979 North Vietnam reconquer and occupation until 1989and the singing of the Paris peace agreements in october 23, 1991.
If all of these happened once, it will happen again.
We khmer encourage Thailand to liberate Cambodia from Vietnam occupation and repression and have regime change...
Thailand can uses SEATO to liberate Cambodia and set up a new government just like North Vietnam did in 1979 for Hun Sen regime.
I'd rather live with Thai better than under Yuon and Yuon slaves.
From Khmer Frontier,
Come on. Hun Sen is just a paranoid Communist slut.
This is the same bullshit tactics , same lies, that mr hun sen used in 1997 coup against prince ranaridth. it's getting old. people know that this alegation is just a shamless lie to boast political gain in cambodia.
He learned all these crook tactics from Pol Pot! remember polpot evacuated city, CIA gonna bomb capital, he used to be Kang Chlob in Khmer rouge...now Mr Xen start having fear with his own shadow! good keep fearing more and more!
Pol Pot learned from Yuon Hanoi, and Yuon Hanoi learned from Soviet and China, so Hun Sen learned from Yuon Hanoi.
To all Khmer compatriots, ladies and gentlemen,
Dear Khmer Kandal and Khmer Krom fighters,
Mr. Sam Rainsy and his party non-violence policy towards Hun Sen/CPP will not and never be able to work and Vietnam does not want to understand what is democracy, what is human rights and what is oppressed, colonized, occupied Cambodia who once upon a time fed, sheltered and supported the Crocodile Vietnam to win over United States Arm forces in Vietnam War.
On 16th December, 2009 Mr. Hun Sen said in Cambodian public that Mr. Sam Rainsy will not be tolerated again this time, he must come into Cambodia and go to Prey Sar prison (sic), or he should ask Thai government to let him form a Khmer Exile Government at the Khmer-Thai territory along the Western border.
What Mr. Sam Rainsy ought to do is neither go to Prey Sar prison nor go to Vietnamese court in Hanoi. If, I were Mr. Sam Rainsy I would negotiate with Mr. Abbhisit Vejjajiva the Thai prime minister to follow Mr. Hun Sen’s suggestion of forming a Khmer Exile Government at the Thai-Cambodia border. I can assure you there will be 100 of thousands Khmers inside Cambodia will come to join the new Khmer Exile Government like in 1979’s.
Khmer King Norodom Sihamoni appointed Thaksin Shinawatra as Hun Sen’s adviser. Therefore, Mr. Sam Rainsy can form a Khmer Exile Government along Khmer-Thai border too. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WHICH CAN bring Vietnam and their slave Mr. Hun Sen/CPP to respect the 23rd October, 1991 Paris Peace Agreement by convening another international conference on Cambodia.
