Thai PM welcomes Cambodian king's royal pardon for Thai engineer

[Abhisit] reaffirmed that Thailand is still a good neighbour and will not interfere in Cambodia's internal affairs.
BANGKOK, Dec 11 (TNA) - Thailand's Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Friday said that the royal pardon granted by Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni to a Thai engineer convicted of spying is good news, while at the same time reasserting that the diplomatic rift between Thailand and Cambodia was not caused by Thailand.

The Thai premier commented after Cambodian government spokesman Khieu Kanharith confirmed that King Sihamoni on Friday pardoned Siwarak Chutipong who was sentenced seven years in a Cambodian jail on charges of espionage, and will be released on Monday.

Mr Siwarak, an employee of Cambodia Air Traffic Service (CATS) was arrested, tried, sentenced to seven years jail term and fined Bt100,000 (US$3,000) for releasing the flight details of fugitive ousted Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra when he visited Phnom Penh last month on his first trip there after being appointed economic adviser to the Cambodian government.

Mr Abhisit said that it is good that Mr Siwarak's case is finally ending. The most important thing is that the Thai national is being freed.

The Thai premier said he does not think that the issue will be magnified for political reasons, as Mr Siwarak has always insisted that the information he had shared was not a secret.

Mr Abhisit said it is the consideration of the Cambodian court that releasing the flight information affected Mr Thaksin’s security, but said he is unworried about explaining the matter to the international community.

"I think we can see the cause and origin of what has happened recently and that other countries understand well that the Thai government has done nothing to affect the situation," said the Thai premier. "Some people want this issue to be politicised.

“I think that most Thai people understand the situation,” Mr Abhisit said. “We did not intensify the matter.”

He reaffirmed that Thailand is still a good neighbour and will not interfere in Cambodia's internal affairs.

When asked whether there will be negative impact on the Thai government as Mr Siwarak confessed and pledged guilty to the case, Mr Abhisit reasserted that the Thai government had not involved with the case as the flight schedule should not be considered secret information.

He said that in Thailand, all flights which will fly over Thai skies also must be informed to the Thai authorities, adding that he believes anyone looking through the whole saga might notice some irregularities.

The Thai premier reiterated that Thailand has not started the current diplomatic row with its neighbour and Mr Siwarak is not the cause of the problem.

Mr Abhisit however said his government is keeping seeking extradition of ex-premier Thaksin. If Thailand receives information that he is revisiting Cambodia, extradition requests would be made to Cambodia. If he flies over Thai skies, Thai authorities must also try to arrest him.

Mr Thaksin was ousted by bloodless coup in September 2006 and was sentenced in absentia to two years in jail for corruption and fraud in a Bangkok land purchase scandal in July 2008.

Mr Thaksin's visit to Phnom Penh last month fueled already existing tensions between the two neighbouring countries. The Thai and Cambodian ambassadors were recalled respectively, while Cambodia rejected Thailand's request to extradite the ousted premier to the kingdom.

What wrong with this gay king? Why don't he pardoned his own khmer people, too? Is he khmer or youn?

Thai government always concerns about the safety of its citizen on abroad. There are many Cambodians have been jailed in Thailand, the Cambodian government seems to have no action to save its citizens. This shows that the Cambodian government is careless about its own people.

About Thai never did anything to Khmer! Yes they did, they shelter and support the Khmer Rouge to fight with Cambodian government for years. They murdered 30,000 Khmer refugee at Dangrek mountain in 1979. They shelled into Khmer refugee camps along the border, killing many innocent Cambodian.
And now they want to demand Preah Vihear back. Kasit and Abhisit is the cause of the latest conflict between the two countries.

khmer king has no brain. he sits like a robot waiting for command from the three monkey who are in charge of the khmer assembly.

We know all along that Thai are crual. Why were we running to Thailand in the first place? The fact that people choose to run away from Khmer Rouge to seek shelter in Thailand rather than staying in Cambodia suggested that the Thai are better than the Khmer Rouge. Another option would be to run to Vietnam or Lao and this way Khmers did not have to be mistreated by the Thai.

siamese had a pact with yuons and ho chi minh in which thais must not support or must demolish all acts of resistance established by Cambodian against yuons or khmer rouge while yuons operated its killing policy against Cambodian people. In return, yuons promised to share Cambodia with thais one yuons own Cambodia but apparently yuons didn't respect its promise to thais as yuons never did to all those who have pact with yuons

The Khmer don't have to run anywhere! But why the Khmer choose to run to Thailand? I had been trying to answer this same question for years! For me to answer the question why Khmer have to run to Thailand and I will have to answer another question? The question is why the Vietcong from North Vietnam choose run into Cambodia and why not run into South Vietnam?

Yes the Thai never want the Khmer on their land that is why they killed so many Khmer but why did they change their mind and allow the United Nations to set up refugee camp along Thai-Cambodian border? Just ask Uncle SAM and Communist China and without the pressure from Uncle SAM and Communist China on Thai leaders to help shelter the Khmer Rouge and the Vietcong would still be in Cambodia until now! Remember the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Cambodia to escape the American bombing!

Remember how Uncle SAM lost the Vietnam War? Remember how the Communist China fail to teach the Vietcong a lesson to make them withdraw from Cambodia! The new policy by Uncle SAM and Communist China is to bleed the Vietcong white by using Cambodia as a battle ground and put economic embargo against Vietnam! Now you know why the Vietcong is on run all the way back to Hanoi! ahahahhahhahhah

Khmers

Pol Pot gave power to his subordinates to kill Khmers.

Now, Hun Sen gives power to his juges to imprison Khmers.

It starts again ?

Dear Cambodian compatriots,

Samdach Hun Khwak plays a very good poltical game here with Thailand. We have nothing to gain by keeping the stupid Thai spy in our jail. It will cost us more money. By "ORDERING" our King Sihamony to pardon him, it makes the whole world thinks we are all good Khmer. Got it??????

I disagree because the Cambodian government rewarding law breaker such as for spying. I thought it is in Cambodian government interest to promote the people in Cambodia to follow the law such as traffic law, corruption law, and NGO law...? Why now the Cambodian government back track by rewarding those who break the law?

Why not make this spy guy works for food in jail?

This is bad for Cambodian image world wide for rewarding a criminal! The world don't understand the Cambodian Buddhist way of thinking but what the world know is right and wrong! And if you are wrong and you must do time!

4:59 AM,
I don't think American lost the war in Vietnam. If American lost 70,000 soldiers' life while Vietcong/NVA lost 500,000 men I don't consider that American was losing the war. It was a pressure from American people that prompt American president to withdraw troop from Vietnam. Beside, Americans have plenty of nukes to eliminate Vietcong/NVA should they want to win badly. In regard to Thailand, it is an independent country they can choose to not cooperate with the UN and never allowed refugees to set foot in Thailand and there was nothing the U.N./US can do about it. Cambodia under Pol Pot never allowed U.N. offices in Cambodia. In 1980, Malaysia, Indonesia towed boat refugees back to the sea as they realized that it's worth not to accept the refuges as they caused many problems in their countries and those governments did not care how much U.N. or America paid them. As for America, it did not have to feel guilty for war in Cambodia to the point that it has to put pressure on Thailand to accept refugees as Sihanouk himself who caused all the problems. If Sihanouk did not directly involved in helping Vietcong/NVA in the fight against Americans then the Americans would have no reason to expand the war from Vietnam to Cambodia anyway.

Arguing with you is like arguing with a little kid because you fail to follow Cambodian politic since 1979.

American takes revenge against Vietcong for losing the Vietnam War and that is why they supply the Khmer resistance force with weapons. The Communist China takes revenge against the Vietcong for failing to teach the Vietcong a lesson to make them withdraw their troop from Cambodia and that is why they supply Pol Pot force with weapons!

Why do you blame King Sihanouk when the Vietcong choose to run into Cambodia for hiding from American bombing? Why do you blame King Sihanouk when the South Vietnamese army go into Cambodia in pursue of the Vietcong and kill the Cambodian people in the process?

Thailand is not independent country because American use Thailand as a military base to launch attack against the Vietcong and Cambodia during the Vietnam war! Where do you think the B-52 bombers are flying from? From Malaysia or Indonesia? ahahahahahhahahah

The Vietcong think that they are invincible because they got the Soviet Union behind them. The payback time come when Uncle Sam and Communist China agree to bleed the Vietcong white by using Cambodia a battle ground and the Vietcong was bleeding very bad to due economic embargo and the constant flow of their money to support their troop in Cambodia.

The fact that the Vietcong choose to withdraw their troop from Cambodia and there is a reason why! Did the Vietcong troop succeed in eliminating the Pol Pot force and the Khmer resistance force? Of course not!
Is it a coincidence that when Soviet Union withdrew their troop from Afghanistan and the Vietcong withdrew their troop from Cambodia too? The reason is the Soviet Union can no longer supply the Vietcong with money to maintain occupation in Cambodia. If the Vietcong is all tough and why don’t they stay in Cambodia longer? ahahhahhahahhahha

There is a saying that you can win the battle but lose the war! Yes...American soldiers did succeed in killing a lot the Vietcong in battle but for whatever the reason they choose to withdraw their troop from Vietnam. Does that mean American will forget Vietnam of course not! The same thing with Communist China for failing to teach the Vietcong and they withdrew their troop with embarrassment. Does that mean Communist China will forget Vietnam of course not!

Tell me who help kill the communism in Cambodia and prove President Richard Nixon domino theory wrong!
